All,

Posting it on behalf of rohan. Please use this to update on this status.

Bikers, its time for the Championships. The September BBCh race is just around the corner.
We have the Kavery Trail Marathonon 19th sept, which was the original date for the BBCh (3rd Sunday of every month). We are working with Runners For Life to get a run/bike calendar finalized for the year, but we need to swalpa adjust for this race so that we can enjoy our runs and our awesome races too.

The plan is to shift the race day to the coming weekend 12th Sept.

The general thought at the prev race was to have a Time Trial in September (the prev TT was in Feb)

Know of any nice TT routes ? Requirements for a TT route - good long stretches and traffic free roads. It would be perfect if this was in the city and if the route was shady and scenic.
Time Trials are perfect to get family, friends and your neighborhood band to make a ton of noise and have a fun Sunday morning.

Let is know your thoughts.

My vote for Sarjapura-Chandrapura road. the one done in 2009 BBCh. couple of kms after Decathlon stores.
Nice traffic free road and no speed breakers for about 8km or so..
Didnt understand why scenic route is required.. its a TT.. most of us will be riding with head down to be as aero dynamic as possible :)
Rgds,
Nalla.

What length of TT are you guys looking at?

Back road to Devanahalli is great. Start after the village and you get
12.5km to the end, so 25km TT out and back. Start at the beginning of
the road, and you get 22.5km till the end, so 45km out and back.

Decent surface [used to be great but now a little rough, though no
potholes] and speed breakers only in the village, not much traffic and
scenic too for those too fat to get aero :-)

which back road to devanhalli are u talking abt? starting from where?

Jagan was once mentioning a good-surfaced traffic-free road from Rajankunte to Devanhalli (of unknown length)....

A 7 Km stretch I guess (i.e 14km to and fro)
We have done 14km TTs in the past. Have been good cause it allows folks to go full blast :)

we could do more too !

There is SH35, from hope farm to the crossing with NH4. There is a little traffic and the road has a divider. There are no speed breakers either. 1 length is a little over 8kms. The only issue is a section of about 0.5kms where the road is muddy due to construction activity.

Here is the route:

it's better postpone than prepone the event... even the next month date should be postponed as 3rd sunday 17th is Dasara.

BBCh 8: on Sep 26th
BBCh 9: on Oct 24th

now time to decide on the race type and the location

Race type - Sept is a Crit and Oct is a Off road (since Aug was a road race and Sept is a Crit, we need to dust out our MTBs) :D

+1 for crit

crit is short for criterium

There are many variations of it that are conducted. Here's what it was like, for last year's crit at manyata

There is a 2 km loop in a residential area (with permissions taken).... There are many tight corners. The goal is to do as many laps of this loop in 1 hr. The wnner is who does the most number of laps and arrives at the end of 1 hr

this is a very spectator friendly race, as one sees the riders multiple times.

Oh .. BTW .. after the last race in 2009, we were hoping to end BBCh10 with a kickass exciting race with a ton of participation, audience and fan fare.

A crit at IISC was something that came up. IISC is in the city and we have nice shady avenues for the crit. Plus IISC is a cycling friendly institution too !

Hoping to end the year on a fantastic note !

All this is thanks to Sreepathi who is working hard to get us the year end Crit there.

Does anyone have any locations for a Crit ? Georg, would Manyata be an option ?

If not, we default to a TT and have it in Sarjapur (like the first BBCh race in 2009) or the Devanhalli route (what Deepak Rao had recommended

Hi rohan,
oh dear, i thought somebody was working on it. i kept away because i jsut dont have the time these days .
probably misread the or supressed "end of the year" crit as the 'next crit' will be at at IISC !
manyatta is possible i guess, but i hate to go to t hem witch such short notice. as it is a IT hub with many thousand young workers, we should announce it to them with some advance time to get people to the dcourse, look, cheer and participate even..
a TT in the north as per Doc Deepak ? t hat could be good, but a TT really needs empty roads or we (or one of us might)be/are in trouble!
this actually means that nobody had beenon the job for this coming sunday ?

dear Rajnikanth, dear all

crit
a crit is a very attractive event for public , spectators etc. wherever we do it we must plan it in advance , invol ve people locally and do decent promotion and have it well organised not to disappoint somebody coming to see for a first time.
ideally a crit is started at 9 AM or so to facilitate people coming t here etc.
so manyatta residential layout for this weekends race is out  because it has not been organised and set up in time. such a thing should be started and done at least one month in advance . by the way , for manyatta we have the contact to the estate management through dr. Arvind (friend of CEO of Embassy) and through last years contacts when we did it there. what peopel form BBC who work there can do is mobilize interested people form within  the Tech companies there.

TT
is more of a BBCh internal thing , because it must be on empty roads,  therefor the earlier in the morning the better, say 7 AM. also such roads we cannot find in the city center, we must go further out.

so lets concentrate on TT for coming sunday.

this is my opinion based on the all the previous BBCh races.

Yes. Early in the morning is a must as traffic will be less.
Just did a ride on the stretch last Sunday and the road is great.
Though we might need to be a little careful near the village as the
road gets really narrow and curvy.

It is a gentle downhill from Sarjapur cross towards Chandapur, so save
some energy for the return leg :)

Cheers

Need you experienced suggestion

I have one of my friend who is leaving to Africa, so he is selling his stuff, one among it is

Hercules Six gear cycle he is quoting Rs 1200 which is 2 yrs old harldy used.

I have right now single speed Avon Cycle, I do min/max 50kms-70kms on weekends.
I have started cycling 2 months back. I weigh 96 Kgs, not checked recently. Hopefully at least gone down a bit. I am enjoying it overall.

Please kindly advise, I had plans to buy Trek 21 Speed after six months later.

Chandapura Cross FTW. I think like last time, we should stop and turn back before the village to avoid the boys practicing their  coconut bowling skills.

The only issue is that it becomes a rather short distance (17 km round IIRC). That was fine when BBCh was just starting, but with the way people are training nowadays, it would be little more than a warmup for many. Should we do a 2 lap event (i.e. out-back-out-back)?

Hey Neelu

Would recommend NOT picking up the Hercules. The gears are going to be crappy anyways.
Keep the avon, tend to it well and enjoy the single speed ride ! Single speeds are awesome - the trick would be the remove as much junk as possible to keep the maintenance as low as possible !

Once you get on your Trek 21 speed bike - you will be beating all the pants off bikers who have been riding fancy carbon frames :)

Save the 1200 for your 'other' bike

doing 2 laps is a good idea, because a 14km TT is a sprint, at least on a 28 km you get some warm up time integrated !

Hi Rohan,

Thanks for the advice, Yesterday I tried a small ride, I did not feel comfortable with Hercules, what feeling I got is my Avon was even smoother than the Hercules and it was easy pedalling compared to Geared hercules.

I am not much used or can say not used to any gear cycle at all.
I think better stick to Avon for few more months, once I am comfortable doing 100Km+ ride, may be then switch to the Geared ones.
One more confusion which you bet among the two Trek or Firefox Target, it seems to me both are same.

regards
Neelu

Got quite a few requests asking for route, timings etc

All the details are on the BOTS blog now - http://blog.bumsonthesaddle.com/2010/9/22/bbch8-2010-time-trial
The map is the 2009 map, hence the date :) Am unable to change the date on google maps. Missed out on a Georg map this time around.

Where: Chandapura Cross, Sarjapura road Map to location, ignore the date
When: 7:10am. Sunday, 26th Sept 2010
WhatTime Trial
Who: Anybody and everybody (get friends and family to cheer you along
How long: A 28km adrenaline ride

What's interesting is that we have quite a few teams now (welcome Cleated Warriors, the latest addition).
If more teams form, we can have a super TTT (Team time trial). Should be loads of fun - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZQ2K-0FugQ

Ok folks, racers/volunteers - please sign up - http://www.bangalorebicyclechampionships.com/register

We have just 30 folks registered at the moment.

Since we are doing the loop twice, we would need a couple of folks to do the timing :)
Pradeep will hopefully do his magic to ensure we get the results before you hit your IVC after the race
Karl and Manjula will be helping out with the race standings - so we get updates on our overall standings earlier than before
Arvind Bhateja will be getting the hot nurse
We hopefully wont be too fast for The Veloscope team
and we will hopefully have the usual Bananas, biscuits, electrolytes and water :)

Looks like we are all set for the TT !

Race hard.

Welcome , you can also go for an BTWIN Bicycles they are also good brand, you can get the aluminium version ROCKRIDER 5.2 FOR  rs10000 cheers.

Dont worry about the gears, I went for the higer brand only because of comfort and passion which i never got i Indian brands.

If yo are happy with the current bike start riding continuosly and enjoy, Dont bother much,

You could also try Kona Dew (priced similar to Trek 7100). Had picked it up from BOTS a couple of months back and it rides like a beauty. Am doing around 50kms everyday for commuting to office (Sarjapur Road - Manyata Tech Park).

We can start a GetMoreWomenBikers campaign and in the usual biking way would to immediately call it GMWB :)

But on a more serious note, we need to work on this.
