Hi All,

We want to buy a lady's cycle, somewhere in the 6k-11k range.

The user is a relative newbie with most of the cycling meant to be on
the road.

Could anyone suggest any nice shops and brands which we should
consider.

What are the major differences between Rockrider FIVE.1 and Rockrider
5.0 (Lady) ?

Thanks in Advance

I have been riding on the roads from the past few years but only upto
3-4 kms one way. Earlier I used to do it over the highways in Mumbai
and now I do it regularly in the morning to go to gym in Bangalore
from Tata Institute to Sadashivnagar Fitness One through Sankey Tank.
Having only recently introduced to this forum, I was shocked to hear
the distances traveled by enthusiastic bikers. However I have no
previous experience with bikes. I have been always using a Ladybird.
One in Mumbai which is over 15 years old and still going strong and
one in Bangalore, just recently bought a year back. But I have
observed at times when I am cycling, almost daily some great bicycle
riders with some really good cycles just zip past me as if they were
in an auto or on motorcycle and that too quite fast. So I am wondering
if I am really bad on my strengths or is it the cycle which is bad.
Any opinions on where LadyBird stands in biking also any new
suggestions for bikes are very much welcome.

The ladybird is heavy. So, most likely, its not your strength thats slowing you down

Back to the original topic,

Rockrider is the only bike i can think of, that fits in that budget and has an aluminium frame.

I agree. BSA Ladybird is a great bicycle for short commutes. The basket on that bicycle by itself weighs a lot.

My wife purchased a Firefox Target recently. Honestly, this bike is also pretty heavy. I would much rather have her ride a hybrid/road bike that weighs < 11kgs.

I am also looking for a good bike for my daughter who is about 4 and a half feet.

Thanks, I guess I will do a trip to Cubbon Park on Sunday to get a look at what bikes are used. Its really nice to find enthusiastic bikers in Bangalore.

How can you get away with mistake we all committed :-) Its a well
oiled path

My wife bought a 8K bicycle and within a year bought an Hybrid and
before that I had a 6k bicycle and bought a Trek 7100 and now thinking
of bying a touring bicycle. Hope I had bought touring in the first
place :-)

Many a times, its about justifying the cost a) to others who wonder why the hell you have to buy a cycle for 50k+ (in case of touring bikes), b) to yourself: "Am i really gonna use it so much for it to be worth the buy?"

Slightly OT but relevant.

Yeah +1 to that. I bet most of us had that small bit of doubt whether we'l use the bike enough to justify the cost. And more often than not people end up buying an expensive bike and let it rot. Thankfully such people are not found here.

On another note, thankfully and quite ironically, such people are found all over the net and in case anyone has a tight budget, its a good idea to explore the option of buying a used bike.

some more time !

I am also closely watching :) Prachi, I too have a Ladybird and use it for short distances (shopping etc.) And I am 5' tall, so watching for "cycles for shorties" suggestions, too!

I do want to upgrade, but I too have this typical housewife attitude of "will I use it enough to justify the cost"! And I still want a bike with a basket, and I won't wear all that spandex stuff and be the comedy section of any bikers' meet!

Haha yeah me too just 5'. But i have been using the lady bird with a
seat at a much higher height. In fact i had to get a new longer rod
for the seat. Well the reason i don't want to go for a costly bike
right now is because i don't know which one is the best suited for me.
Well also the same reasons that i don't know if i would be using it as
much everyone here uses but i am sure i will start once i get to know
this group more :)

Whoa! Whoa! I said it is heavy compared to a < 11kg road/hybrid bike. Firefox Target is a great bike compared to the Lady-Birds and Miss Indias. It comes in different sizes unlike Indian bikes where you are stuck with one size fits all. It comes with quick release wheels for front and back. I would HIGHLY recommend buying a Target for your better half or for yourself. Please also look at the Rock Rider as it comes in different sizes also.

Here is a new trend. The last few ladies I have interacted do NOT want to ride a girly (or is that girly girly) pink color bikes with a basket carrying a cute looking puppy or a bunch of pink/yellow color flowers (OK, the part about the puppies and flowers are a little too far fetched...gotta be able to laugh).

Another nugget of information:
Firefox Target was retailing at Rs.9k in the More Megastore at Marathahalli
I have heard of Rockriders in the same price-range as well.

If i am not mistaken the it is RR 5.0 which sells for 9k. This bike has steel frame compared to Aluminium for Target. Also the rear wheel of RR 5.0 is not quick release. Not sure about the other components though.

1. Rockrider 5.1 is better than Target at around same price.
2. Rockrider 5.0 women's is available in bangalore
3. I am not a dealer/involved commercially with rockrider stuff :p

I thought there were 3 different sizes. But then, Sriram, you are the expert.
