Hi Guys, I am planning to go for a foldable cycle as it would enable me to travel in Bangalore buses along with my cycle.

But I would like to know is there any disadvantage of owning a foldable cycle in comparision to non-foldable cycles. Would I be missing something if I go for a foldable cycle? I am talking about good foldable cycles not cheap ones.

Thanking you all for your suggestions......Vijay.

Some disadvantages, some disadvantages. Which folder are you looking
at? A 'good' folder like the Tikit, which is a great commute bike, is
fantastic but expensive.

Having said that, folders will not be 'that' easy to carry in a
crowded bus.

A few weeks back I tried riding a foldable bike at Decathlon. I found
that the control was not as good as regular bikes - especially while
turning. That is probably because of smaller wheels. I would not be
comfortable riding one of those on Bangalore roads in traffic.

Actually I have used the Dahon Vitesse a bit and find it very comfortable - have a quick review here - http://blog.bumsonthesaddle.com/2010/9/19/dahon-vitesse-d7-review

Folding bikes are good for city commute as the smaller wheels make it perfect for a fast city ride. The foldability is awesome. Easy to stash away, take it on a bus/auto/car
The review link has quite a few pros/cons

The Dahons are not available in India anymore - have not ridden the hoptown from Decathlon. Not sure how they match up.

Like most bikes - the overall build quality of the bike impacts the ride quality. I rode a Firefox folding a couple of years back and felt like I would never use this bike for my commute. I loved the Dahon.
But then the quality influences the price and the Dahon costs about 2.5 times the Firefox folder.

How about a push-scooter - like the Xootr or the Razor (http://www.xootr.com/). Seems like these would be gr8 on sidewalks in US; has anyone tried them in India?

Not quite a cycle, but it has two wheels and a human engine.

Deepak, I am looking at Strida. I like the way it folds. My office is getting shifted to a new location and it far to commute in this hectic traffic. Thinking about using Bangalore's Volvo buses but I have to walk quite a lot either from home or from office to the bus stop, hence thought of going for a foldable bike.
