I'm not sure what the OP requires gloves for, but I wear gloves for
insulation too, not just padding :-)

Hopefully, some brand name recommendations from heavy duty glove users?

Having better grip in sweating or wet hands is another reason for gloves. I have one from decathlon - it cost me anywhere near 300 or so... ages ago, I cannot remember.

Point. I struggled with grip during the Ooty climb during Bliss in the  hills.

But if the gloves are wet, won't it make it worse?

Web gloves won't make it slippery. But wearing wet gloves too long as its own problems - hand gets soggy.

You could try Bums on the Saddle. If you really want good gloves go in for the gloves made by specialized.

If you're looking for very good quality gloves which last long, buy fox or scott or altura. They're usually on sale so there's all chances you can find something for around $20 if you comb through the interwebs carefully. CRC and evans come to mind, as does a group buy and free shipping.

You could try using good leather gloves available in sports stores. I used one and it lasted a while. Provides good cushioning too. Just buy the one that you feel comfortable gripping your handlebar. Don't buy one which is too tight. If you find it suitable then nothing like it.

I must admit, I've bought gloves only a few times. First was one from
a sports store. Second was two pairs from decathlon, and third was
from REI. Only the first came apart. It was quite good otherwise. But
it was only INR 120 or so, so bottom of the pile. So pick carefully.

Chiddu,

Most good gloves are breathable, on the back of the hand, but rubberized, on the palms. This allows for sweat to evaporate from the back, while ensuring that the grip is never compromised. I have a pair of Jakroo gloves which have seen a lot of use and have also been through a number of wash cycles and are still going great. I can't use them in winter though, in Sweden, as the finger tips are exposed to the elements.

I have excessively used Btwin the Red gloves which is quite famous amongst riders in Bangalore.
But I recently tried a BellWether gifted by a colleague and felloe cyclist, I used in in Bad roads and broken tarmac and in climbs of Mulayangiri.

It was very very comfortable! despite the "Sucking" bar tape I had, which had already screwed my palms in the ride to Mysore and Hassan (first 2 days). Then it was all the Bell Wether Supreme Road cycling gloves which made me complete the tour in peace!

I think it must not be expensive as someone could gift me...!!!

Cheers
Shyam

I am currently using PlanetBike 'full' gloves... find them to be quite good (specifically the palm padding). Price was ~Rs1600; had picked them up at BOTS.

Before that, I was using the B-Twin 'full' gloves... used to like those as well, especially since the price was much less. But Decathlon stopped stocking those (2-3yrs back?). They had started stocking a different design/brand, which I seem to recall did not look as good as the earlier one; for one, the palm padding seemed less.

I had planned on using the Decathlon 'half' gloves... had picked up couple of pairs at a clearance sale... but I was looking for a basic pair of cloth 'full' gloves that I could wear inside them... so that the fingers are covered (no two-tone fingers from riding in the sun, as well as no /less cold fingers from riding at night). But did not find a nice pair of cloth gloves. (There were the cloth gloves word inside the regular gloves by cricket players, but Decathlon seemed to have only a 'youth' size.)

While riding in the rains, the thickness of the glove material does become a disadvantage, as the gloves do get uncomfortable & also then take time to dry.
