Hi guys,

The shifters on my trek broke after 10 years. I am looking to replace them.
The originals were Shimano SL M310 (3 x 8)

These seem out of stock on most websites google point to.

Any tips where to get them from or where to get alternate shifters ?

Regards,
Jai

(Late reply.)  If it's still unresolved -- Have you checked with any bike shop?  They should be able to tell you what alternate will work.  (you could just send them pics. try these shops -- RRCycles Madiwala, BOTS, Cycling Boutique, CrankMiester.

Hi Jai,

I would suggest the following options

1) Low end shifter models are interchangeable. 8 speed  micro shifters from decathlon could work
2)  Change Cassette/Freewheel and shifter as a pair. You will not have any compatibility issue. May need to redish your rear wheel
3)  Move to 7 speed Shimano, you will lose a gear but that's a sacrifice.
4 ) The easiest option would be to move to a friction shifter. No index issues and fun to change.
5) Imitation equivalents are available on amazon.in

With Regards,
 R Narayan

Very late reply: Shimano 7 and 8 speed cassette spacings are near identical, so you can use R Narayan's suggestion 3) to use use Shimano 7 speed shifters without changing any other component or complications (beyond losing one gear - either top or bottom). I have done this myself in the past.
