Replied point wise.

Road condition: Awesome roads through out.. 100 meters bad stretch if you are taking Srirangapatna- belagola - ilvala route.

Weather Condition: Madikeri weather is very cold these days. Be prepared.

Locals-friendly/unfriendly: Depends on an individual. Nothing like unfriendly locals.

Any uphill?: Slight uphil between Hunsur and Periyapatna.. Uphil starts from Kushalnagar to Madikeri. That is 30 km

Any roadside shops/coconut sellers?: plenty of them are available.

I am planning to take this route: Bangalore-NH 17-Mysore-Hunsur-Periyapatna-Bylakuppe-Kushalnagar-Madikeri.
How is this road: the best route and shortest too

And I'll be staying for a night in Madikeri. Is there any cheap hotels nearby? Just to sleep and use the bathroom? Like Rs 500-700: Can offer you accomodation at my place if you are ok or at my home stay which is 6 km after Madikeri town.

Thanks,
Rampeashanth

Need help on the road conditions from Mysore-Madikeri. I am planning for a solo ride on the 27th from Bangalore to Madikeri. I have done Bangalore-Mysore cycling trip before so I know the road conditions but the problem is that I have never been to Coorg. I have no idea if the road is cycle friendly or not. So help me out guys.

Joe,

I have cc'ed to Karthik, who is planing to ride on 26th, you are planning on 27th, if possible to re-think about the dates you both can ride together. Karthik is riding to Mysore and beyond.

Hi Guys,

I would love to do this route - but really scared of the traffic in bangalore-mysore highway. What do you guys do to make sure that you are safe? Do the roads get better as you move away from the city by any chance?

Regards
Deepan

You will get scared for sure, when riding in the Bangalore Mysore High way. But when you have real love of cycling to reach destination, the fear or scare will get vanished in no time!

Hi deepan,

It is safe, I would say it is really safe. No doubt traffic is there, when you ride in single lane I do not really find it is bothering to ride on this road.

Yes it gets better as move on, especially after Channapatna...

I was in Coorg over the weekend (in car), and noticed that there are not many options for food late nights in Hunsur, Kushal nagar, and Madikare area except one or two coffee day in this highway. So, plan to reach early, and also route was pitch dark with heavy traffic (trucks and cars) with so many speed breakers..

Kushal nagar to Madikere has quite a lots of uphills as already mentioned in this thread..

You could possibly ride up to Kushal nagar (around 220-240KMs from Bangalore) and stay there, then next day you can climb up Madikere and do some uphill rides near Dubare and then near Abhey falls...

It is quite sunny and hot in Coorg area during day time so don't expect winter like climate :)

Have a nice ride, and enjoy your holidays!!
