Hi Ppl,
It was nice to see many ppl turning up for this race that we had today. I hope the organization was up to your expectation. We want to improve on this when we do it the next time. So please post your feedback.
I personally had a blast today riding with you guys! I would consider this trail to be the begining of the MTB races, we plan to make the trails better and produce better riders out of our biker community in Bangalore. There are more races in the pipe, and we will keep you posted. I would like to thank few ppl from the biker community who made it happen
1. Dinesh
2. Sriram
3. Nelli (Nilesh)
4. Pradeep
The official race report and timings will be posted by Pradeep by end of the day (As he promissed). This also means that you have to write your experiance about this, as this will add value to the community, and also motivate more ppl to join these races.
Thanks and Regards,
~ Ravi

Ravi,

It was a wonderful event today. I have to take my hats off to you and the others who laid down the trail, at no point in the trail did we ever feel that we were lost, you guys had provided directions at every single place where there was scope for confusion. The trail itself was fantastic, we had a mixture of surfaces ranging from pavement to absolute slush (in fact during the 4th lap, a truck got stuck there, three of us were racing and we literally carried our bikes past not wanting to give an inch to the others). It was challenging without being insurmountable. It was also just the right distance, I think if it was 1 lap more, Shamim would have lapped all of us:-)

I also wanted to highlight the role played by Murali and the other residents of your colony, the kind of enthusiasm they showed was amazing. I don't think we could have managed this event without them.

regards
jagan

I had a great time.  I can barely walk right now, and it feels like I've got a punctured lung..  Must get in better shape..  ;-)

Thanks to all those who contributed to the organization and running of the event.  It's very appreciated.

See you all next time, hopefully!

Amazing work guyz - I m glad I made it. I got lost thrice - this is excluding the getting lost before the race in search of the venue! ;)) (getting too absent minded I guess! ;))... The last time I got last I hit the trail again without having reached the starting point!!! :) Retraced the path there on... Wanted to complete one lap in the least as it was a _wonderful_ trail... I always wanted to go thru such terrain at a good speed (almost killed myself at some places!:))... Had done 40 kms (most of it outside of the race... :)) Hope that changes...

Wud be out for next 2 weeekends. See if u guyz can make it to the ITcyclers thing. They really need some good inspiration there I guess! ;) I am glad we had Sameem today! :))

Have fun,
Mynk

PS: Needless to say my bike has half inch of much at some places. Request a mechanic close by to pressure wash it. He told he has never done it for a cycle before. Uska bhi first time hai! ;))

Don't do that. You don't want water pressured into your bearings. Just
give it a good scrub.

I second the comment.  Pressure washing a bicycle will have you buying new bearings prematurely.

I bought a couple toilet brushes to be used just for this slimy clay sticky crap that accumulates on my bike.  It helps get the worst of it off, but I still need to go over everything with a cloth if I want it to be clean. (And since I keep the bike in the house, the boss appreciates it when it comes in clean.)

Great turnout - absolutely great to see so many riders - 30 if I
remember right. Hope it sets the trend for rest of the races. Great
trail too - guess we were lucky since no rain for last two days.

Thanks Ravi for the initiative & Ravi/Sriram/Nilesh for laying a great
trail. My race ended just into the first ten minutes - punctures in
both my front & rear wheels! Guess I really should have seen the
broken glass on the side of the road in advance :-( That and the
fact that I needed to be back home early (for the sake of domestic
peace, 2day being wife's b'day etc) meant that I headed back after
completing one lap.

Thanks for a great Sunday morning. My son learned a lot about riding in different conditions on his 1.5 hour long single lap - 12+ kms by my speedo. The trail was a perfect combination of slush, woods, grassy patches, lakes, and even a landfill! I pushed a little hard on the second lap which Akshat waited out, and was surprised that I could do it without stopping at all. Time constraints meant I needed to push off after that - but this was a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.

Thanks for the effort, help and a chance to meet so many enthu people. Looking forward to a longer ride soon :)

Rgds,
Sameer

Thanks a lot to all the organizers and volunteers and the participants.
3 weeks into cycling and because of you I already have a taste of what off-road can mean.
The trail was faantaastic, and as promised not boring at any point.
The support was great and the trail markers well laid... I felt very secure in participating even though it had not intended to race.

Couple of comments:
- there was some confusion as to the congregation point (quite a few of us missed it), to be fair to Ravi we probably did not pay enough attention to the directions in the mail. next time I will definitely be more careful about reading the directions.
- the congregation time was 7:30 am and start time 8:00 am, this stretched the end time  (delays included) to around 12:30pm (for slow ones like me), subsequently reaching home cleaning the bike/self took the better part of the rest of the (Sun)day. Does it make more sense (if circumstances permit) to congregate earlier and start by 7:30am latest.

Really looking forward to the next one.... participation guaranteed :)

You guys rock!!

That was one heck of a race men! Was almost kicking myself for not joining the previous one. The wonderfully marked out trail, all that support from Mr.Murali, meeting all of you guys on your oh-so-cool bikes (I even dreamed of Phil's bike last night), everything about it made it so worth it.

I managed to do just one lap ( must have been the slowest too. Akshat would have managed to be faster than me if it weren't for him getting stuck in that slushy bit. Hee hee) but when I did complete that solo, Pradeep and everybody else at the station cheering made it worth all that huffing, puffing and even getting lost. Not to talk of that happy wide grin on Sameem's face each time he completed a lap! He almost looked sorry when he had finished his 4th.

Great goin guys. Cheers to many more such races.

PS: Lesson learnt - off-roading needs suspension though gears are still optional extras!

Well, tough trail, on a tough bike - and 1 lap was not "just one" - esp with the detour you took :)
Look fwd to more such trails.
Here's a couple of pics of Akshat struggling with the slush - took us over 20mins to get past that bit:

Thanks a lot guys for organizing a great event. I need to also thank
Pradeep for prodding me into participation. I loved every single
moment of it. Initially, it was difficult to go past the mush. Just as
I was about to stop cycling, I think it was Sameem shouted from behind
"dont stop just keep cycling" and that helped me get past the slush
pretty easily. The markings were very good. Once we (Sukhdev and I)
almost took a wrong turn and one of the on-lookers shouted, "left,
left" to put us back on track.

Thanks to Mayank, I managed to get to Silk Board quickly but the
subsequent ride to Bannerghatta was hard. The last bit of cycling from
the main gate to my dept was unbelievably hard. Legs refused to move.
Walked the last few mts to the campus hose and hosed the mud off the
bike. Had a hearty lunch at Krishna Cafe (the best Tamilian food this
side of the town) before going home. Looking forward for more such
rides.

Been following all the emails...the event seems to have been so well
organized and enjoyable.... while I do wish I had been able to come
for the beginning of the race and meet all of you who are just names
to me now, after reading this bit above, I am glad I didn't join in
for the race! I think my legs would have refused to move much earlier
in the game....but I am sorry that there was only one "lady person"
(as someone politely called me!) in the race...one day, who knows,
(when I am about 95 or so) I too will join in...!

Next time, I think I will come to the start to cover it for Metblogs! :)

Deepa, I am putting together a write up of the event with photographs and videos and hope to complete it by tonight under the MTB-B-2 Race report series.

I would be happy if you can go though it and in case you find any publish worthy material take it and publish it. Why wait till the next race? :-)

Well..because usually, on Metblogs and Citizen Matters, I write only
about what I have participated in/visited/watched....but you are
right, I could give you credit and put it up on Metblogs!

Can anyone tell me if the MTB race has been covered on Citizen Matters
yet? I don't think so...I can't find such an article when I did a
search.....will check with the editors and let me know if I can submit
an article. I have more leeway on Metblogs ( phukat mein likhtee
hoon), but I do feel CM will be a better choice...I never said that,
and you never heard that from me! :)

Send me the material and I will ask for a couple of photos later and
let you know where to email them to.

Cheers, and I would be really happy to publicise all the activities of
this band of enthusiastic "green"s!
