Hey Sandeep,

Do give us little write up too.

Though the photos did talk their story, scribble few lines.

Akram,

I try to include the information that will be useful.

I traveled to chikamglur by Volvo. The cargo space is enough to place
the bicycle in almost upright position. But you need to book the cargo
space. Bicycle is considered as 2 units which amounts to Rs.40. Make
sure you are little early so that you can place the bicycle where you
feel right. Use ropes and knots to keep it firm. Don't let the
conductor place. They treat it like a regular bicycle and mishandle
it. This is the problem I had to face when I was returning by M-Benz
from chikamaglur.

Day 1 : Chikamaglur-Mullengiri, 26Kms complete uphill, Ride time
11am-3pm
Day 2 : Mullengiri-Kemmangundi, 52kms, 40% uphill, Ride time
11am-430pm
Day 3 : Stayed at Kemmangundi, no riding
Day 4 : Kemmanagundi-Kalathi-Lingadahalli-Santveri-Chikamagalur,
66kms, 40% uphill, Ride time 10:30am-4pm

Roads are very good from Chikamaglur-Mullengiri and Kemmanagundi-
Chikamaglur. But the Mullengiri-Kemmangundi is worse(lot of potholes,
sharp edged stones, loose soil on some stretches). MTB is a better
choice on these roads.

All the route information was provided by the locals. I went on ride
without any comprehensive route planning. The route and distance
indicators are perfect. Day 1 I stayed at Mullengiri temple. I had
carried a sleeping bag. Day 2 and 3 stayed at Kemmangundi guest house
maintained by department of horticulture. I had not done any advance
booking since it was a weekday. Day 4 I reached chikamaglur and
luckily found Mercedes Benz to reach Bangalore.

Important things I carried
01) Medicine(Antipyretic, cough and cold tablets), Band-Aid, Pain
relievers
02) Sleeping bag
03) Rain proof cloths, Thermals, normal clothes
04) MTR "ready to eat" food in case needed
05) Glocon-D
06) Chocolates and energy bars
07) Trekking head lamp
08) Barsaathi
09) Thin nylon rope(10m)
10) Digital Camera, Tripod(which I hardly used), spare batteries
11) GPS(May not be necessary as route markers are perfect)
13) Puncture repair kit, spare tube.
14) Match stick(Should have carried little fuel)
15) small and light weight rucksack which I always wore. Kept things
that were needed often.
16) regular bag to retain clothes etc.
17) pannier bag fitted to a carrier(compatible with Trek, found it in
Jayanth store, Mantri Mall after lot of searching)

Met and talked to lot of people on my way.Made few contacts and few
friends. Overall it was an experience not just a cycling trip.

Sandeep,

I need to transport my bike to Pune next week...How did you book the
cargo space on volvo...?

Should I book it along with my ticket or can I just book it before I
board the bus ?

cheers,
-Sathish

Sathish,

There is luggage counter in Kempegouda bus stand. You can book the
cargo after you buy the bus ticket. But make sure you are early to
reach and place your bike in a convenient place where you can safely
tie it to keep it in place. Probably you have take out the front
wheel. My contact number is 9742483082. You can drop a message in case
you need further info.

Hi Sandeep,

Nice solo and unplanned ride. Pics posted are good. I remembered of myself doing solo Bangalore to Dharmasthala.

All the best for the future rides.
