Hi, Fellow Cyclists,

I would like as many of you as is possible, to particiaate in the walk from Lalbagh West Gate to Town Hall on the 9th of November. Today Mayank and I attended the preparatory meeting. The walk is essentially to make a statement that we want our roads and our city to be for all sections of people, not just car drivers.

Hasiru Usiru is NOT an NGO; it is just an umbrella covering many groups and individuals who are all concerned about retaining the character and beauty of Bangalore, and keeping roads safe and usable for sections of society other than motorists.

I think that as cyclists, we have a stake in seeing that the road-widening process is done keeping in mind the needs of cyclists, pedestrians, elders, children, and differently abled people; we will be submitting a signed petition at the end of the walk. The larger the number of people on the walk, the stronger our statement becomes, and the more likely it is that the BBMP have to take our needs into account instead of building lifeless, soulless  desert-like stretches of roads that are dangerous to everyone but motorized vehicles.

So...could I hope for a strong response from many of you? We could have a group of people cycling along, too...do please join in! We are all meeting at 10.30am at Lalbagh West Gate on 9th November 2008.

I am glad I was able to make it to the meeting today - I din't know the incessant felling of trees is ILLEGAL. None of these pans have been shared with the public let alone seek their consent. The way the _incompetent_ govt officials are headed we shud not be surprised by the brain drain and people fleeing to a more comfortable life abroad. If u wish to do something this is one such event.

It wud be good to see people from bikers group come there. Probably u can get ur bikes along and walk them... (not sure need to check) but we definitely need people. If you have any contacts in media and such please share.
