Picture from the article. Can't wait to do this :-)
Till then, I'm armchair cyclist, cranking up my posts-per-day count.

I totally relate to this article!
One thing that I have found to be great fun is bike washing with my 4
year old daughter. When I need to wash my bikes, I just fill a small
bucket with water and lots of bubbly soap for her to wash her little
bike with. Turns into a bit of a water and bubble party where bikes
get cleaned and humans soaked, but loads of fun :)

Also when I am training on the Turbo she likes to sit and watch for
some reason!? She often passes comments like why dont you go faster,
and why are you cycling in here, its all very entertaining but I'm
usually out of breath and cant talk too much. She loves being part of
the training, getting me the water biddons, power bars, towel, and
running downastairs and reporting to her mother how many minutes daddy
has left on the trainer.

Cant complain about family support I guess!

There are those who like me are single parent and need to make a
choice on who will take care of the baby when I am pedaling away.

It is struggle but then thats family...right?

hm..........!
so this is how it could have been I guess, never really realized because racing for me was never central to my life in my youth except a yearly hill stage race up my favourite alpine valley( 30+ km, 1400 m altitude) unfortunately my long distance touring also stopped after coming to India with kids and family life - i think it was down at its worst to a single monster ride a year (i call it that because obviously i would have muscle pain after that)
but now , thanks to BBC and all my new friends it all has changed dramatically. ............. and i am thinking of getting a home trainer too! so thats where i have come to now! and the other option is lookig at night rides, last years return form Anchetti with kynkyny team was such a beautiful reminder how beautiful night riding in cool wind can be.........! so besides the trainer i also have to get really good set of lights! funny, the wish list never ends.........!
have fun, Georg

Guys, should we start organizing night rides for bicycle-dads-and-moms?

I would love to do it provided we can handle malicious street dogs and drunk-drivers.

good idea!
just remember:
  • dogs can be controlled if one is not scared (stare them out>>>>>>>>>>>>!)or have a little stick or whip on your handle bar, or Vikrams big  pump !
  • drunken drivers cannot be controlled, cant imagine how!

How about we give this a trial run? I am kinda busy until 2nd week of April. Can someone PLEASE take the lead on conducting one? We can start from some central location in Bangalore. How does that sound? The other option is to do a night ride up to Nandi from Turn-around point near Devanahalli.

Night Rides - Wow!! I had started with a friend recently - we started
from CCD Airport Road and cycled for a few hours towards Nandi and
back a couple of times...this was Saturday night...very cool - no
burning in the sun...but folks be very careful and ride in groups with
strong head/tails lights...
In Delhi until Friday night and may travel out of town - this weekend
is ruled out for me

Cheers

Dogs won't harm, just just try to scare you :) They get paranoid mostly during night time so they try to chase people off.

Yeah man, after all, poor things also need some excitement in their lives. For all they know they might be doing their jobs , chasing off all these strange creatures in 2 wheels and strange gear who come in packs.

I would be more worried about the dogs who enjoy more than their fair share of liquor and try and beat the speed records on Bangalore roads at 6 in the morning
