Hi Rekha... New BBC member here. By what time do you expect to get
back to the starting point? I want to join you, but I'll be cycling
from Malleshwaram, so want to know what time I'll be getting back. I'd
driven to Anekal just yesterday, and was thinking about what a
beautiful route that would make for cycling. :)

start point is the outer ring road ( coming from marthalli) and
sarjapur road junction .. there is a lot of construction there- so
look aorund and find a spot. we will LEAVE at 7 am from there. and
ofcourse in true BBC tradtion there HAS to be breakfast ( we will find
a small idli ,vada place) .
we tend to extend /change the route depending on the group and our
mood ! .
on time it will take - the current route is about 56km - so plan
for a 3 and half hours ( including breakfast stop ) for this loop ,
so we shoudl be back by about 10 30 and then add your cycling time to
and from the meeting point .
we arent doing the anekal extension- but anyone wanting a longer ride
can ride on past attibelle- and yes its a nice ride there .

Hey,

I'd love to join but couple of concerns. I run 32mm tires so is this
all tarmac? Kinda afraid of flats because I'm currently without saddle
bag so no puncture kit. And I hope you have another slow rider to give
me company :D

I just got back from bots incidentally, reached a little too late so
the place was closed. Bought a saddle bag on ebay last week so waiting
for that to arrive. So are we pump-less?

damn .. we were there till 4 :)

Thanks Rekha, we were just talking about the dying of these smaller nicer IVC rides on BBC which are so essential.

all these psycho 100+ km bikers, going to Mysore for the early cuppa was killing the IVC culture :) (so I thought)
yay to these nice rides, topped with some super soft fluffy Idlies, crispy Vadas n filter coffees.

@htedum Yes I do know that steel full sus with knobbies part, I'm
themadman on BZ :) we've had an unrelated virtual conversation I
think. And I'm just a month or two old too!

@Rohan: Yeah I reached at 4:15 or so and the watchman was like you
guys just left, he gave me Nikhil's number and I had a short convo
with him. Next weekend then!
Also us n00bs do not like 56 kms being trivialised with such disdain,
LOL.

Ok then, turning my alarm volume to as high as it goes. Tomorrow
morning it is.

@vijay: Don't mock my heavy pump. It's all I have. :( So I'm not
getting my pump then.

@madman: I knew that, I just thought it'd be presumptuous to call you
by your secret BZ id. :) Also, that post was partly for the benefit of
my fellow noobs who may be on the fence. Yeah, this is going to be a
major ride for me as well: 30 km up and down from Malleshwaram plus 56
km = 86. I'm psyched for it!

Dammit, so much for my Feluda-like revelation.
Might as well do 14 and make it 100!

I'm hoping to! If I don't feel too sweaty and nasty (probably will),
I'll meet some friends in Koramangala or Indiranagar for beer.
Otherwise, I'll take off for a leisurely hour-long stroll in the
evening.

Rekha, I will be missing this ride tomorrow. But, I hope you guys get to eat Thatte Idly and Sambar made with Hirekai (Birekai or Pirkangai or Chinese Okra). This is on Varthur road after Inventure Academy (i.e. the place where Duathlon happened last year). We will be thinking about you at Jayaram's canteen :-)

Will be there.... no pump, no kit.... just me and my oversized legs.

Worst case, we have to pass decathlon right :D

@Vijay, be careful if you are using one of those mini pumps that come
with a puncture kit from decathlon (about 650/-). The rigid attachment
point tends to cause a puncture where the valve attaches to the tube -
as I found out to my dismay. you will need a new tube.

Sorry guys, the bangalore noob in me misunderestimated the distance
between my place (Domlur bridge) and Sarjapur junction. Google maps
said it was ~10 km so I left at 6.30, absolutely sure I'd reach before
7. What I did not know was that G maps routed it through IRR while I
was riding on Old Airport Rd and then ORR. Absolutely oafish! Its a
good 15 km from here that way.

Had a decent ride anyway, hope you guys had fun!

@htedum: I had hit the office gym with a vengeance when you called
me :D , therefore the reluctance.

Hey Abhishek. No problems, hope you had a good workout! I'll probably
see you next week... You must've missed us by like five minutes! I
think you tried calling me too, my phone was in my bag. Sorry about
that.

This was my first ride with BBC, and it was great fun. Clocked 98.7km
from my house back to my house, in 5 hours 51 min total. Yes, I
could've done a century, but I'll be fine. :)

Thanks to the faster riders for their patience (waiting for us slower
riders at turns), and especially to Sampath and Madhavi for the
company, lunch and beer. I swear, that one can of KF blue was probably
the best I've tasted. And thanks to Vijay for the coconut water treat!

@Rekha, Nalla, Sampath: I will (someday) plan a ride that does CTR for
breakfast, where you'll get to see the REAL Malleshwaram, Bangalore.

Buddies,
This was my first group ride and also first for my new Trek 4300. My bike is less than one day old and I covered 74 kms (starting from home and back).

Following were the details of the folks and their bikes:-
Roadbike - Rekha, Pankaj
MTB - Sampath, Sudanshu, Barani, Vijay, Abhijit, Nalla
Hybrid - Madhavi

I was running late and met the group near Chandrapura circle. The road from here towards Hosur Rd is awesome.. less traffic and cyclist's paradise. Saw few bikers coming from opp. side.
Pankaj was extremely fast and he just took off in this road. He finally decided to extend and visit Anekal and return via Bagalur ride.

It was a nice group ride, with fast riders going ahead and waiting up for slow ones to catch up at junctions. We did lot of bike swapping and enjoyed riding other's bikes.

We had b'fast at Attibele at about 9am. We feasted on the idli, wada, pooris. Coffee was lovely as well.

The whole ride was very eventful with no flats, breakdowns :)

Pics to follow soon, looking forward for more such rides.

Rgds,
Nalla.

Abhijit, inspirational stuff buddy, your first long ride and you almost clocked 100 kms. I envy you man.

Buddies, ensure you ride with proper settings of the bike. Saddle height is really important especially for such long rides. Let ride safe and avoid injuries.

Sorry Abhishek, i was not sure whether i will be able to make it for today's ride as i had not slept properly for 2 days. Thats why i had unicasted my no. and interest to join ride to Rekha. But the excitement of new bike and first group ride woke me up even though i had only 5 hrs of sleep. Please keep multiple no.s handy for future rides. As i mentioned earlier i too was running about 15 mins late and i was able to catch up with the group later.

Thanks guys for waiting. Appreciate it.

Rgds,
Nalla.

Yeah Nalla, learnt a lot about saddle pain today :) We went to
Decathlon on our way back to check for a longer saddle post, but it
wasn't available in my size (25.4mm diameter - 25 and 26 were
available, but not 25.4). I'll check at Venky's, failing which I'll
write LAS (heard they respond promptly).

Loved riding Sampath's Giant, it felt so refined. Wanted to try your
Trek too; thought I'd take a spin when we were done, but missed it
since you took a different route from the coconut place. Was nice
seeing so many good-looking bikes. :)

Yes will keep extra numbers handy the next time :)
@htedum: Upgraded saddle and seat post couple of weeks back from RR
ulsoor, he had a longer LAS seat post for 350.
I paid a visit to Deacthlon too... didn't know you need membership to
buy stuff.

Barani, share pics from your digicam da.

Abhijit, you can try my bike next time. I got call from home ministry and hence had to zoom off from the tender coconut spot near Chandrapura Circle on our way back.

Rgds,
Nalla.

Guys, sorry I had to carry on after Chandapura as I was planning to do
an extended route.
But once I was on the Hosur road there was a lot of head wind and I
got tempted to turn left from Attibele.
Finally I happened to ride the same route and reached back at the
starting point at around 9:30 AM.

It was really nice to see such a large number of riders for a sunday
ride.
Hope to see more people in the future rides.

Cheers
Pankaj
