A friend of mine is caught between choosing the Firefox Target and the
Ryders ACT 107. He asked me for advice. Being a relative newbie, I'm
going to redirect the question to the collective.

So which one would you go for:

or

Thanks,
Rohit

Hi Rohit,

I vote for Forefox, since front suspension is better than a bad rear suspension which you get in Indian Bike. By saying this I am not degrading Indian Bikes. Generally Indian Bikes come with not so good suspensions. So go for front suspension bike from Firefox.

Also look for technical aspects like frame, brakes, gears etc.,

This is my suggestion and purely your / your friends CHOICE.

Thanks

Agree - guess Target is one of the good low end bikes ...

yup

some expectation setting
week 1 - your Bottom bracket will become a little loose - just get it tightened and you should be ok.
week 16 - fork will freeze. Cant do much - live with it, you have a rigid suspension. Or chuck it and get a better suspension.

Ok,
My two cents: I have a Target, I HATE the brakes, they are really rubish, the front fork SUCKS, lousy cheap badly engineered contraption, and my bottom bracket started acting up within the 1st 100 km of riding!!
You are better off with no suspension than bad suspension!! For what it's worth, spend a bit more and get a lower end Trek or Merida if you can.

Rohit,

I will be selling off my Merida TFS 100 (am the proud owner of the
last piece of 2008's Team Green Flame in India) by end of this month
or max first week of Aug 09.
I will be upgrading to a road'ie, so, if your friend is interested,
you / he can try this.

Cheers!!

@ Rohit,

In your budget you can also have a look at Decathlon Btwin Rockrider
5.1.
It is a nice beginer bike without any significant issues in the long
run. I got mine 3 months back, did some 1200 kms and it is holding up
quite nice.
You can check with BOTS if they are still selling it. Mine was 12K.

Honestly surprised.

Been using Target for 3 months now - done over 800 kms. One pedal
replacement - thats it.

Yes, there are better bikes in that range. Rockrider could be one..

You can get the Rockrider 5.1 for 9.5K if you have membership at
Decathlon.

Yes but to be member you need to have a valid business licence, the list of which is detailed in this page. If you can somehow manage that by asking someone who has a licence to register and buy for you, then you can get stuff for wholesale prices.

Last weekend I was at decathlon, I was informed that you can gain membership even if you are part of a registered society or association.
The eg. given I believe was Springfields Residents association

@Sharath - correct me if I am wrong since I was too distracted with the scooter to really pay attention :)

My friend read all your advice and ended up buying a Merida 40D from
wheelsports. Now, I'm all jealous.

Thanks guys!
