All,

For some reason there seems to discrimination against brevets starting with odd numbers :-). No threads on that, 200, 400, 600 and 1000 are discussed in glory.

So here it is. 10 of us started at 10 PM on Saturday and I think most of us made it (unless I get updates now).

It was needlessly difficult as far as 300 KM distances go as it started at 10 PM. So sleep deprivation and heat made it very difficult in the last stretch. Most of us rode together until first control and finished 200KM around 9 PM (11 hours) however next 100 took almost 7-8 hours.

Few memorable moments :

  • A police car with some senior cops in them stopped me around 1 PM and inquired what the hell was I doing at such "Odd" hours alone. I told them I wasn't alone and in fact was riding with few folks until they stopped. Of course I explained what brevet is and they had very skeptical looks :-).
  • Chiddu, opendro, deepak (1000K heroes) at different point overtook me very cheerfully and I felt like jumping off the next fly-over that was negotiating at 2KM/hour. But seriously hats off to them.
  • Reaching CCD for a great crowd and having all sorts of food.
Finally thanks to Parag who rallied us through-out the night.

Others 300 KM please update how yours went.

Regards,
Manjula.

Staturday Nit at 10.00Pm me and 9 other folks attempted 300 brm. Ride started from MG road CCD.. First check point was at Hiriyur which is 161kms away from bangalore. It was 11.30 whn we hit Tumkur road highway due to junk weekend traffic from Mg road till tumkur road. After that I got seperated from team. Me and another guy called Srikant rode till sira which is 120 kms from bangalore. we covered first 120kms at an avg speed of 32kmh although it was deadly dark in the night. As per my calculation i was supposed to reach Hiriyur(first control station) at 3.45am or 4am..But there was a big tragedy happened to me. I was hell speepy as I had office on saturday and no proper rest.. I did nt realized I almost reached Chitradurga (which is 40kms away from first check point i .e hiriyur)  until I saw sunrise.. thn I reached Hiriyur at 6am.. had a good breakfast at hiriyur and time pass till 8.30... Decided to do non-stop ride to bangalore. did nt even stopped for lunch... while riding bak got 3 bak to bak flats. Managed to fix it quickly as I was carrying spare tube wit me. Reached bangalore at 1.30 pm.. When I noticed my speedo meter it was showing 370 kms with total trip time as 12.45hrs with an avg speed 28kmph(Trust me). Whr as total time taken to complete this brevet ride was 15hrs(I would hav completed in 12hrs if I had nt missed my route which made me to cover additional 60kms) . I am happy with the performance. Planning to attempt 200, 400 and 600 which is happening to next month.

Yes manjula. It was an awesome effort from your side. Surprisingly It was getting hot when i thought we would have lot of winds/rain.
Riding alone is the worst part - I took a small break to get some water and it created a gap between me and my friends.
I couldn't close the gap till the end though the pace was more or less the same as others. Most of the time it will be a km or 2.

Having said that, i agree with you when you say we all get influenced a lot by these 1000 finisher's. In fact i was spinning a lot till 130 km
but only when i met chidu i got into bigger chain ring and started riding fast. I just couldn't digest the fact that somebody who is riding
for the last 3 days comes around and overtakes the 200 km riders who were riding fresh since that morning.
I couldn't believe that somebody could attack those climbs by standing up and mashing after 900kms of riding.
If not for chasing chidu i would have enjoyed riding with you. Happy that you completed 300. Congrats again.

Manjula,
You are very right.. I was wondering what happened to the 300 KM ride and there you go. your email !! :) Hearty congratulations..

regarding your comment on the cops, poor chaps.. They don't do their job and they get pulled up and they do their job and then also they get pulled up :))) I really wish I was there witnessing the fun of they trying to understand what this 'god damn ride' is all about :D

Super awesome effort Manjula! And everyone else who rode the 300!

My wife was there at CCD when I finished my 200 and she was overly thrilled to see you finish! You are an inspiration and if she does start biking now, major credit would go to you!! :-)

Cheers!

Basker, apart from this cop-story from 300k riders, the funniest incident was some villagers woke up a sleeping chidu and told him
that he has a bomb behind his cycle ( His tail lamp never goes off - it always blinks ). Heard from him that he was thoroughly checked
To know what happened later we will have to wait for his blog.

Anil, Kishan,RK, Nalla, all, Thanks.

Nalla, Good catch it was 1AM (Looks like I am still suffering from sleep deprivation).

Bhasker, :-), Yogesh, good to hear that. We definitely need more women on the circuit.

Uday, originally I had planned to 600, but intermittent flu over last week made me change my mind.

I have only 600 Pending in the series now and I am attempting this next month.

regards,
Manjula.

Thanks manjula for the clarification.. actually both 1am and 1pm are odd hours for a lady cyclist :)

As Bhasker said, wow.. cops were doing their duty.. and senior cop that too was present :)

Best of luck for the 600 FEmale, have a great one.

I think the same cops asked us to go back. We were stopping about 8 km
away from Chitradurga in post midnight and cops on the other side
flashed lights on us from the other side of the road and asking us to
cross and come. Vinay crossed and had some chat. They told him that we
should go and sleep, not riding in the night.

A measure of new found respect for Chiddu that a counter came after a

Congrats to Manjula and the other 300km brevet riders!

And 1 is an odd number. But Manjula said: "For some reason there seems

starts with an odd number.

Chiddu,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1_(number)

1 is an odd number right.

Karthik,

Yes I was wrong about 1000 starting with odd numbers; But 1000 itself not an odd number. so I am still somewhat ok :-).

Sohan, Deepak, thanks.

Nalla, a 1 pm/am is odd time for lady cyclist huh ? Thank got I am just a woman not a lady ! What about lords ? Is it odd for them too ? :-).
