I have been using montra rock 1 for 10 months now. I have done 3000kms till now. I was stuck between these two choices when i went to purchase my bicycle. Rock 1 has below the bar type shifters whereas rockrider5.1 has grip shifters. You have to decide which will be more comfortable for you. taking into consideration the parts in montra rock 1, i think it is the best in the sub-20 range. You don't have many more options.
Other people in the group can enlighten you more.

Happy Riding!

Does Montra come with sizing or is it just one-size-fits-all?

The Montra Rock (& Rock1 and Rock1Plus) comes in ~17" (M) and ~19" (L) sizes, FWIK.

A friend of mine was looking to buy a bike and I finalised the Rock1Plus for him.  I did_not do a detailed review of the components, but from Rakesh@RR, the sense I got is that overall, the bike is better than say a Trek3700 (which is priced at ~Rs27K, I believe).  So quite a price difference.  (specific components might be better in one or the other.)

I had been meaning to post on BBC asking what folks thought of the Montra rock MTBs.  Does look like they are capitalising (finally!) on the high duty on imported bikes.

Consider the new RR 5.1 Big. It's a 29'er. I don't know of any other 29'er at that price.

Yup.... You shall love the look when you actually see it parked beside other bikes (atleast in decathlon store).
Obv.... Theory of Relativity comes into picture here. around 25 or 26 k and it really looks good..
