Hey guys,

On my routine service call at jayanth cycles for my 3700, i happened to meet some interesting people last evening.

The Territory heads of Trek were there, including the MD of firefox/trek distribution for India.

They were here for the launch, and to collect feedback from distributions across india. I raised some pain points that i felt could inprove all of our lives. Points that i really stressed on were,
1. Accessories/Apparel for our bikes readily available for us to see and buy.
2. Need to associate with our [BBC] group members, since the composition is from rookies to seasoned bikers.
3. [BBC] JERSEY/T-SHIRT - For all us members to avail of, which is probably additional promotion for them.

I really wish our seasoned guys on the group were available to give their mind share as well on what could improve on product availablity for us!!

Overall they've promised to respond on all the requirements that we have, and see as a potential for them as well. And would like to hear from us for inputs!. Any inputs at all, pls contact the below id:

1. Shiv Inder Singh - Managing director - firefox/trek bikes india distr - sh...@firefoxbikes.com - 098110 73526
2. Trek - Territory Head-  J Peter St Onge.
3. International Territory Manager - Jay Moncel. (Contact both thru Shiv)

Thanks
Sharath

Alas, in the more than ten years that I have been cycling around, I have not been able to convert a SINGLE woman friend of mine to cycling; everyone perceives cycling to be a dangerous way of transportation, and one where vulnerability is high. Well..having been bitten by dogs, brushed by autos, buses and inhaling the exhaust fumes of traffic, I can't entirely disagree with them....

Dunno if I shared earlier - out of 800 people who die in road accidents
400+ are pedestrians. People don't stop walking do they? I haven't heard
of too many deaths on cycles but have read aboud so many incidents with
two wheelers and cars. I think I the chances are equally bad and depends
a lot on the person. I m more careful on a bike than a motor bike! ;)

I have been mugged also... :) But then people in cars also have been
mugged, on bikes too. Dogs have attacked me on my motor bike - had I
lost balance and fallen wud have more broken bones than merely a dog
bite! :)

U don't have to disagree. Just tell them if they ride a bike they will
die of accidents _MayBe_ but if they don't they wud succumb to cardiac
problems due to the high cholestrol. Don't know how many of them
exercise enuf for the lifestyle these days with people getting a stroke
at 23 and diabetes at 26.

Hey, that is such a sexist thing to say mister! Why women as such? Everybody complains about pollution, and hardly anybody does anything about it.

Personally, I have met equal resistance and equal conductance (umm, sorry could not come up with anything better) and have so far managed to convince two people to start biking to work and one person to learn to ride a bike (this one being a woman, an "aunty" of some 40 odd years too)

From my experience, it is equally hard, man or woman to get them into the "4 wheels bad, two wheels good" mode

WSDs have been out there for quite some time ! Getting bikers on BIkers is quite a task here in Bangalore. The press release is just somethign to build awareness.

We were supposed to meet Pete and Shiv too .. unfortunately both Nikhil and I were not in town !
Im glad someone from the group was able to state his thoughts. Good job

But, Im curious - what do we really want ?

- accessories ? We (BOTS) are trying to get as much as possible (sifting the bad from teh good, if its crap we dont bother getting more). So is Venkatesh. Is there something more that would be nice ? Let us know.
- associate with our group ? And do what ? These guys are territorial heads. We have tried interacting with Pete a year or so back, but then its too high up to be able to do anything.

Im not tryign to throw cold water on ur thoughts

Its just that we need to be able to do think big and clearer - http://www.1world2wheels.org/
Bike companies out there are very concisous about wanting to contribute to community projects. We just need to have an impressive plan - if we want to engage with them.

Its up to us ... no one else will.

which brings me back to my question - what do we really want ?

Yes it is... :) I have copied all those friends of mine who I am trying to convert in the last mail in BCC! :)) They say biting remarks like this usually motivate futile heated discussions or sometimes prick the receiver enuf to prove the initiator wrong! ;)) I wish the latter happens... :) But there is no denying that girls crib more about dust and pollution than guyz - at least amongst my friends it is the case. Guyz prefer there bullets over cars - so much consideration for the dust and pollution! :))

I have a friend who goes planting trees on weekends in Pune. She sez that's her way of preserving the environment and probably more effective than anybody amongst us! :) She doesn't want to ride a bike coz she thinks she now needs to enjoy the luxury of a car (she hasn't one yet! :)). She is pretty fit also so... In the recent trek she din't fare well but that was due to many other reasons. Cudn't get her to budge. Hope she grows some day! :) I think the status thing in India is a pain to get over... People need to grow as they are about most things - gay culture, discs, alcohol, etc! :)

The bottom line is we have 4 female members out of 250+ members in this group and that needs to change. I believe there is no disagreement on that! :))
