Hello bikers!

Just one simple question to you all. Which do you think is the
cheapest road bike (drop bar) besides Hero Hawk and BSA Mach available
in Bangalore today? What's the rate and where can I get one from?

Can you get a drop bar attached to a Doodhwala bicycle? Wouldn't that technically count as the cheapest roadbike?

Yes, you are right. So, Cheapest Road Bike = Doodhwala Bike - Standard Handle - Standard Brakes + Drop Bars + Wired Brakes

Is the "doodhwala bike" the old fashioned dark green bikes with the steel rods for brakes?

If not, how much are those? Those are cool.

Doc, you call it a 'roadster', I guess. By road bike people usually
mean racing machines (though it isn't in the word).

@George: Yep. They are pretty cool. Heavy, but apparently very
comfortable. https://www.ticyclesindia.com/Product-Features.asp?pid=63.
They have prices for everything except this guy.

Hi,

I'm not sure if one can attach a drop bar on the great Indian roadster
a.k.a doodhwala bicycle. If one wants to, then I guess the stock
braking system has to go. Beside, the cost of a doodhwala cycle is Rs.
3500. Changing its brakes and handle will easily take it past Rs.4.5k.

Cheers!

Any reason why the Doodhwalla costs the same as a BSA Mach?

If it is durable/rugged/reliable,the Doodhwalla can be converted into
a single speed heavy duty tourer no?(Since dedicated tourers are
insanely pricey for the poor tourer to be able to afford).

Also, how will the non-cable braking of a doodhwalla fare against the
cable braking systems?Isn't it actually a more sturdy system than the
cable braking system?

Thank You.

:)

Should be much heavier than the mach

The braking is too spongy from my recollections of it...... But, that neednt be so much of an issue for the money saved perhaps.... Carrying a spare cable if you are 'touring' isnt very hard.

You guys are forgetting something. Unlike Treks and Bianchis, India has a vibrant second hand market for the standard Doodhwallah. I am sure you can a decent used one for < Rs.1000. Spend another Rs.400 and you have an awesome oiled+overhauled doodhwallah (good enough to deliver milk freshly milked from the cows).

Guys, thanks for all you inputs! Special thanks to YN Rao! BTW: for a
dhoodwalla bike, why would I bother to get into BBC discussion

I am on a limited budget and wanted to know qulaity road 'racing'
bikes at the cheapest price in Bangalore.

Thanks!

Hmmm, now you rephrased the problem description :)
Cheapest roadbike became Quality road racing bike.
Assuming, you still want to know the cheapest good quality bike.
I will recommend the following:-
1. bTwin Sport1 Roadbike - 25k
2. Heard there is a Giant roadbike (not sure about details) - 27k

Never rode a Fomas roadbikes but lots of riders here do have it.

How cheap? Whats the limit of your budget? Even for roadie scums who want to convert even a doodhwalla bike to a road bike (dont come at me with those road morphs ;D), there are options at various price points. I can recall these from my memory

3-5k = Mach
6k = Fomas Roadking
7k = Hero Thunder Racer
8-9k = Fomas Roadking Deluxe
22-24k = btwin sport 1
28-30k = giant scr 2
37k-39k = Bianchi Nirone 2300 mix
Above 39k = dont know :P

Make a wise choice :)

Buy the mach if your budget is around 4k.Otherwise wait for sometime
and go for the Giant/Bianchi.

The milk man cycle has a different clientile. I rode one for 3 years to school everyday and my father had one for 19 years. It is rugged beyond doubt, survived a lot of head on crashes. Also saves you- as the head is not positioned close to the front point of your bike.

Currently I own a firefox target and I relized I could have avoided most of those crashes had the dhoodhwala cycle brakes were as good as my target's.

And don't get me talking about that stupid chaincase.

It's like comparing a bullet to a Bmw tourer: only difference in price is less.
