Hi All,

Looks like Decathlon is the best place to buy cycling goodies.

Question is how does one become a member? I fail on every criteria
that is on the web!

Help appreciated!

Cheers!

I got the impression that Decathlon is only for retailers and not for
everybody. The "Metro" of sports, if I may.

Glad to know I am wrong!

Thanks!

OT : In my honest opinion, not all that is sold by decathlon is value for money. Some stuff is overpriced at decathlon if you compare it to what deals you get on evans/CRC. For instance, I bought a 10mm alloy 400gm bike rear rack for Rs.1300 while the 1.2 kilo decathlon rack is priced at 1300. Also, I bought scott freeride gloves for 8 pounds while the full finger gloves at decathlon costed me 900 rupees. I have nothing against decathlon but looking at all other options you got is a sensible thing to do.

Coming back to your query : Just drop in to the store and carry enough cash, you'll find someone who will help you out with the transaction.

Regards,
Shankar

I ain't a member but have bought goods worth 15k from there.
Just take enough cash with you and ask some other customer who's there to use his membership card.
You need to take cash because they only accept the credit cards of the member.

My friend is a Decathon member. He found a strange thing recently. The
items are priced differently online and at the store - even for
members. Looks like there are two teams at Decathlon selling stuff -
one sells online and the other sells at the store. He wanted to buy a
particular pair of shoes. He found that he could save over 30% if he
purchased online. So, instead of buying at the store he went back home
and bought it online. I think some items are priced lower online and
some are priced lower at the store. If you want to maximize the
savings, you have to make a note of the online prices before going to
Decathlon.

sounds good.
but then planning about how the product comes to india/hope that the
duty isnt levied or isnt substantial etc/and ultimately not touching
and feeling what you are buying are going to be drawbacks - arent
they?

it is always delicious to fall into the offers-upgrades cycle
though :)

I've bought stuff from Evans three or four times and never got charged for duty and always (except when there was a goof up) got the goods in 5 days max - even when it was a huge rack plus other items. 50 pounds gets you free shipping on Evans on almost all products except wheels and bikes.

OTOH, CRC shipping rates are 20 pounds minimum (DHL) and you almost certainly get charged 30% duty on price+shipping. Always reaches in 3 days flat though.

Shankar

Ya, same with me as well. Got an e-mail telling that they can no longer supply things online. Have to buy it from the store.

I have ordered 2 Brooks saddles from Evans , for the first I got
charged about 700 as Customs, 2 weeks later i ordered one more and
then i was asked to pay customs of 1300 . I dont know how can it be
so ad-hoc, but its not evans but the local customs guys...Probably
they just searched for Brooks saddles and not for the specific saddle
when calculating the value..

Do you have the online access enabled for you now that you are a member through the association of your apartment?

Thanks,

Ok....I have an answer from Decathlon folks. As per them, they have disabled account for  companies where delivery to their billing address is operationally not possible. So Sports for life and BMC members online accounts have been disabled. There might be others as well.

For folks whose accounts have been disabled, you might consider re-registering through your apartment's association in Bangalore or through another medium. You will be issued a new registration number as well as online account.

Thanks,

Nikhilesh

I can still browse and place order and if I give a Bangalore address they ship. Else they call to inform that they cannot ship outside KA without a valid TIN. So you have the option of either cancelling it or geting it delivered locally.

I also did the same way. It worked out for a couple of orders (internet orders) after which they refused to ship the products outside Bangalore without a valid TIN number. A TIN number is not available for owner's association. But it may work out if you are picking up from their store or getting them delivered in Bangalore.

Saikat
