The route was fantastic.

As usual, I had a puncture within an hour from the start. There were a few confusions to find the Malur control point atm. The road from Malur to Tekkal was also patchy. Other than that small stretch, the roads were smooth and scenic. Had it not been a brevet ride, I would have filled my phone memory with photos.

Prashant had a crash at a steep downhill near Pernampattu, where there were four huge speed breakers back to back. Abhinandan, Vageesh, and myself accompanied him to the hospital in Penrampattu. After some first aid, Abhinandan took him to another hospital in Ambur to consult an ortho, while Vageesh and myself carried on with the ride. It got late by the time they got out of hospital, so Abhinandan decided to pull off and accompained Prashant to Bangalore in a Volvo. Prashant has a collar bone fracture.

Vageesh and myself couldn't pick up pace as needed. Having lost two hours already, by the time we reached Krishnagiri, it was well past 10pm. The rain started, Vageesh had a knee pain, and I was feeling slightly sleepy too. We could have finished with two extra hours, but we decided not to continue riding uphill in the late night, with sleepy heads, under wet conditions, among the fast moving traffic on the highway. So, we caught a bus and came back.

Shreeju

You guys made very safe decisions. The report was awesome :-) and hope prashant gets well soon!

Also, it looks like this brevet series is going to be riddled with collar bone fractures!

Nagaraj is right. However, given the conditions I feel you guys made the right decision. If you had felt fine and were only running behind on time, you should definitely have completed the ride. Thanks for the report.

Shreeju,

Thats something I like about the brevets as opposed to races. Its all about sticking together, helping each other.

You made the right decision not to ride back in the night, and during rain.

Good luck for the next brevets!

300 BRM- 3 states and 4 national highways in 15.50hrs

My ride report goes like this...

Last 200BRM I enjoyed riding wit Raman(Strong rider from HYD) , Bikey venky(Killer on Fixie) and Shankar jayaraman. But this time I was lucky to find Raman on 300 BRM list. So I decided to ride with him. When I reached 300BRM starting point it was 6.30 AM. And I was late by half an hour. I was surprised to See Raman  was also late by half an hour. He conveyed a message to me saying that he has bus to catch at 11 pm from Madiwala to chennai as he was planning to take part in Chennai half marathon on next day i.e sunday and he told me to stick together and finish the ride by 9pm (15hrs). But morning I made miserable mistake. Forgot to carry Enerzol. But, I was lucky enough to get 5 sachet of Gatorade frm Rajnikanth Puttabuddi. Thanx a lot RK. It was savior.

At 6.30 we started our ride. On the way, somewhr after Trinity circle we saw Vasu rushing to start point and it was already 6.40. He was late infact and he managed to finish within time limit (Later heard tht he is always late :P). After reaching Garden city college we maintained decent pace of 30kmph avg speed till First control station. But both (SBI and Backup CANARA bank ATM) the ATM's which was mentioned in the cue sheet were not working. We found AXIS bank atm and quickly swiped our Mini Statement. Again, our march started. This time we were five. Myself, Raman, Mustafa, Rafi and Deep Mhsavade(1000kms hero). Pulling each other at 30kmph avg speed till we reached Bangarpet and stopped for our breakfast. There was Flash Mob. We were surrounded by 20+ppl.. Everyone were curious to see our bike, Gatorade drinks we were carring in our bottoles. We decided to leave the place quickly as they were shooting too much of question which we were unable to answer.

We started towards 2nd control station which is at 143kms mark from starting point. I was not aware that we will cover 3 states in 300 odd kms. While reaching our 2nd control point, we entered Andhrapradesh . It was super scenic route, We were surrounded by canopies. Thou it was sunny we were not affected as we were surrounded by tree. Weather was pleasant so far. It was crazy down hill till  Pernambut. While decending the hill which leads to  Pernambut my speedo meter clocked to top speed of 70kmph. It was like zip-zap-zoom-sudden brake-take a deep breath & a smooth turn in hair pin bend. And we reached 2nd control station at 12.20pm covering 143kms so far. But killed half an hour in the Q infront of ATM as there was huge crowd.

After a while, We started towards NH 7 which leads to Krishnagiri. We 5 ppl stayed and rode together till 220kms mark. It was 2.45pm. Later Me and Raman decided to increase the pace and disappeared from rest. No lunch till 3 Pm. We stopped for lunch at 230kms Mark. quick 20mins lunch and started riding again. Again we caught up wit Deepak. He was riding strong. Myself , Raman and Deepak rode together till 260 to 270kms together. After tht we couldnt meet  Deepak again. And we were at Krishnagiri and heading towards Hosur.

Here it goes, Up hills after krishnagiri were Steep, head winds and cross winds were strong. Unable to keep up the speed. We decided to lead each other for every 3 minutes. Sycronizing the position for every 3 minutes. Finally reached  shoolagiri. Took quick 5 mins at Mc D and yumm coke float and decided to do non stop ride to bangalore. Rain blessed up. Had a well deserving shower. Again we were Hit by  insane head wind. But we faced it bravely as we had to reach finish point by 9pm. But calculation went wrong. By this time we knew that we'll be late by half an hour. So, decided to finish by 9.30.By this time another calculation started in our mind. Fasted time on this Route is 15.46hrs by Surya. We decided to break this time.

Race towards finish point

We had 40 mins to cover 27kms to break Surya's time (Covered last 27kms at avg speed of 37kmph). We were in race mood. Pulling each other, at point over taking each other and it was hell of a fun too. But there was too much traffic and too many traffic signals after Narayana Hrudayala to  finish point. And we missed our finish point control ATM and went ahead (Dominos land mark given in the cue sheet is no more existing and this land mark fooled us) .Somehow managed to final ATM control and rode back. And we missed breaking surya's time by 6 mins. Our bad luck. But no worries. Brevets are not a race. It was happy finishing. We waiting for IISc guys to arraive at finish point about 5 mins later to us.

Over all, It was fantabulous 300 BRM covering 3 states,4 national highways,1 Reserve forest in 15.53 hrs.

Kudos to IISc guys for coming up wit such a scenic route, organizing so well .

Actually i had a slow puncture and dint see it till me and shreeju pullout. with all my effort i could cover only 10-12kmph. that slowed shreeju too.  we would have continued and probably finished our ride if we had seen my rear wheel little earlier. many things went wrong with me.. I was still feeling guilty when we boarded the bus at krishnagiri for slowing down a potential finisher. Sorry shreeju I owe you an apology(s). not having a done a night ride before and the prospect of krishnagiri-hosur climb ahead of us we dint see a way forward. But the ride had everything. nice scenic routes, a persistent knee pain, helping a fellow rider in a crash, night ride on a highway during night and i can never forget Shreeju's company till the end. Most memorable ride till date..

     Wish prashanth a speedy recovery..

Nagaraj,

I find it much easier to ride a bicycle for 300 or 400 or even 600 kms as compared to reaching the start point at 6 in the morning.

Thankfully this ride started at MG Road. Had it started from IISc Gate like the other ones then I would have started at 6.55am or 6.58am. Would have most likely finished with an hour or so to spare.

Best,
Vasu.

Vageesh,

Nobody owes anybody apologies. We only did what we expect others to do for us, if we were in their place. And yes, I might have finished had I broke away from you and rode alone. But I would never want to ride alone in those conditions, so again no apologies needed. It was my decision. Overall, it was a great experience, which values much more than a medal from Paris. :)

Nagaraj,

We (aman mohla and me) had an even tougher time at the ATM in the 2nd control. They were loading cash in the machine and we had to wait for 45 mins or so before we got our turn at the machine. This was outright ridiculous. The other ATM was not working. I asked one of the IISc guys if it was ok to take a telephone bill but he said ATM slip was preferable. 5 mins later he did send an sms saying it was ok to get a timestamped bill from a local shop but by then my phone was in my pocket and since the phone was on silent I didn't see the sms till much later.

Btw, this ride should be called the B R Ambedkar Kolar Gold Fields 300km Brevet. There were Ambi's statues just about every where.

The best part of the rain on the Krishnagiri - BLR route was the way it stopped. One moment it was there and the next moment it was gone. Just like that... as if someone turned off a "switch" (not a tap - in a tap you slow down the flow before you close it. this was instant - and for folks who have ridden the 400 with me FYI I was NOT hallucinating)

We had different game in that ATM. Thr were about 10-12 ppl infront of us in the Q. Everyone were taking 5-10 mins and it was testing my patience. Almost lost my tempter. But awesome coffee at at plc cooled me down.

DR. BR Ambedkar 300 BRM sounds cool. Infact landmarks were Dr. BRA in our cue sheets.

Rain was fun part of 300 brm and Coke float added extra fun in that cold weather at shoolagiri.

Hello all,

Good day!

First of all, hats of to the guys who supported prashanth after the crash. Nagraj and others had given the ride report, Here is the pictorial report.

This the place where prashanth had crashed, just behind the auto there are speed brakers with out any indication :(. Luckily i stopped for photography break much before the breakers

The elephant reserved forest stretch between Venkatagiri kota(Andhara Pradesh) and Peranampattu(Tamilnadu).. Love the down hill stretch.. A small break for photography :)..

The amazing canopy at Peeranampattu for a stretch of 20km.. Even through it is sunny, we rode with ease.. Wish all the roads beautified like this

Had a good breakfast at Bangarapet and till 220km distance Raman,Nagraj, Deepak, Mustafa and me are riding together with an average of 30 km/h speed. After reaching Viyanambadi me and Mustafa waited for a hydration break while the other Trios continued their ride.. After a short break me and Mustafa started again and hitting the Krishnagiri Ntional high way.  Skipped the Lunch :(, its effects started.. speed drooped due to climbs and winds. Before Krishanagiri Mustafa decided to take a sleep brake and i continued  further.

No lunch except some cholates.. Body ran out of fuel.. yet to kiss the killer climbs in between krihnagiri and Hosur, could not able to find some jucie stall except this fruit stall :P. Had six nice ripen Green chawal mangoes and then set for the ride

Climb.. climb.. Go away...  come again another day.. :).. But adding air to the fire, rain joined with the climb to make the more scary after sun set with wet surface :(. With the roads under upgradation and fast moving lorries next to me in dark, continued ride in the rain for 40+ odd km. finally when i reach the destination find my speedo meter filled with water :(, but still working :).

Finally finished 313km in 17hour 52 min.   Doing a 300km brevet is easy, but riding home back after a break is painful with the sore bum :(

Thanks for Nagraj and his family for offering hot hot food in the middle of the night, Else it will be more difficult for me.
Thanks to Meera for offering me victoria rubino tires, could able to finish with out a single flat (Last 600km brevet, and 2 BBCH race troubled me with flats and tire bursts :( )
Thanks to Raman,Deepak,Nagraj, mustafa for riding together, loved the company.

Reached home at 3am and set the Alarm to wake up at 4am. So that i can catch the tata winger at MGroad to reach turahalli race venue and finally woke at 1pm. :P

Here are pics from the tri state 300km brevet

It was a wonderful but grueling ride. We were tested with some bad road sections between Tekal and Venkatagirikota. I was riding with Raman, Nagaraj, Rafi and Deepak. These guys just didn't know how to ride slow. I continued with them and we rode fast over the rough roads, with shoulders and back complaining. We had a good breakfast at Bangarpet, but the place was uncomfortable as we were surrounded by a huge crowd of curious onlookers. We had to be cautious about the bikes, but thankfully none of them fiddled with the bikes.

From Rafi's pictures you can see how beautiful the stretch till Pernambut was. I caught up with the three pacers at Pernambut where they were waiting at the ATM queue. Soon Rafi also arrived. After some coffee and cold drinks I left quickly before the others; I knew they would catch up. And so they did. While I was riding leisurely on peaceful roads, a train of four came rushing from behind. I latched on to it, struggling to keep the pace. Rafi and I took a break at Vaniyambadi. The two of us joined the highway soon. I was getting exhausted, and asked him to stop at a bakery.

The road towards Krishnagiri was only slightly uphill, but I couldn't ride at more than 14 km/h. I again stopped. Told Rafi I couldn't continue like this. I planned to sleep for a while. Rafi pointed me a dhaba on the opposite side of the road. I went to the dhaba alone, and ordered some rice. I could only eat less than half of what was served, and that too taking about 30 mins. This helped though, and I felt much better, and didn't feel the need to sleep. I started riding again. From that point I managed fairly well, riding at an easy pace.

The climbs after Krishnagiri didn't feel as terrible as I had feared. It was dark with strong crosswinds. Then it started raining very heavily after Shoolagiri. A thick sheet of water was flowing on the road, making it impossible to see the road surface. I kept searching for the white line, trying to keep my wheels on it. I felt relieved after reaching Hosur knowing that it was the end of climbing. I reached the end control at midnight, where the guys were waiting.

The waiting at the end control was difficult with the cold and slight rain. Sree, Gokul and I started for IISc at 3.15. Gokul gave me some much needed rice to eat before I slept.

While riding on the line is helpful when it is dry, these lines get slippery in the rain, so better to ride either to the right or left of it.

My Ride report

Late but not the last :)

Want to complete all the rides this time around, ridding after a yr of completeing the 200 km last yr with rajnikanth, I really didn't want to miss out on this ride, looking as irresistible ride, 300km. I missed out on the 200 km the week before due to my fault,  On the 13 th night i slept late around 12, sure to wake up early and to reach in time at six on M.G road made me have a nervous night, as i fell a sleep i heard my alarm for 4:45 am ringing, thinking twice to go for the ride, any ways got up and made it in time. :) singed the form and a surprise visit from rajnikanth was very encouraging. All was smooth,
While crossing the hanging bridge my cue sheet fell out of my back pocket :), a trucker waved me down as he pointed to me that a paper has fallen down. I looked behind , It was flying across the road .

The weather was amazing, that gave me some confidence to carry on with the ride, as i wanted to complete it cause i had taken off just for the ride, i really didn't care wat my manager would have said if he came to know that i was bunking work for this ride.

Found my way by asking the locals, it was near the under bridge taking a left where i met shreeju, he on his shwin hybrid. as we were riding down together, he was pretty upset that his old friend had come visiting soooo early in the ride " The puncture", down with the second puncture, he took care of it, as i carried forward reaching the first  check point directly taking a right from the circle and taking a slip from " the axis" bank. i looked puzzled, stopping for tea, right across the atm. i asked the person if the directions that were given to us were "right" any ways carrying on with the ride, taking a right after Malur, i was ridding all alone, the road's were good in patches. At first i was wondering if this was the ride route that i had taken, cause i had not seen any one For A LONG LONG LONG time. and then suddenly i turn back and see super Vasu comming along. I felt relieved seeing another biker, challo i was not lost atleast.

Heard and seen His post on bbc but that last wish also came ture, meeting him :) we rode together just after Bangarpet, as i can remember, and i stopped for a break, and lost him and nvr saw him again :P

Ridding on till venkatagirikota, there i met Vargeesh, he was catching up with is knee, i looking desperatly for food at venkatagirikota for lunch, finally found a decent, well decent it turned out to be, nice guy i had asked for curd rice, he didn't have curd rice so i asked him for wat ever he had. He asked me " the generall question", where are you going, from where u started, blah blah blah, the food was good, but too much, i did apologize to him for not finishing, and he did understand that we had more distance to cover up. He also gave some advice on the route, that there will be three sections up hill and the rest after that would be downhill. i was relived on hearing from him.

Racing on with time, as i entered the forst area i spotted Vargeesh, he was zooming down the roads, i was trying to catch up with him, i would see him at one bend, and he would disappear at the second one, dam so i fianlly caught him up with him on a up hill. :)

The green rich colour was just amazing, actually when the ride took its twist.
As we were crossing the a.p T.n border and reaching pernambut i heard a voice from the side. "Aap ka admi gir gya" " One of yr ride has had a crash". Me and Vargeesh stopped to see, a rider has had a crash. He was bruised, we stopped checked him out, It was prashant. B-723. and shreeju also cameback to see wat happened.

He was in pain, frm the after shock of the fall. Couldn't stand, nor lye down. wondering if his collar bone was fractured. We sprayed Volini, on the bruises and luckily or by chance Vargeesh had bought a pain killer tablet from Venkatakotagiri :). We were also in intial shock as too what we should do, but i think with the help of a few local who could communicate in English they made it very simple for us. They called in 108 frm pernambut, It CAME i was surprised. I also spoke to abhi jeet one of the race "officials"
about the crash. we loaded prashant in the ambulance and my self with the bikes off to the nearest hospital. Dam These On lookers, can be annoying "wat happened" how it happened" from where have u guys come".... HELLO carry on mind yr business, any wyas ..... The doctor gave a pain killer injection and  advised us to go to ambur abt 45 min journey to see the orthopedic. immediately so wat the four of us had planned that Me and prashant will go to Ambur and they will catch us at Ambur, not realsing that they dont have to take a right and go to vaniyambadi.

We loaded the cycles on the bus and went off to ambur, reaching ambur just to realize that it was hot and humid, but there was also a communication gap, btween us and the locals. i asked for " hospital"...... and they gave a blank look. dam these Tamil Nadu ppl " No offense" I was missing bangalore...... and its weather , any ways getting back to the story there was a crowd just staring at prashant who was tied up in white band aid and we roaming up and down with our cycles dressed as super man, attracting more crowd, was even more pissing off. One said go down this lane u will find many hospitals, when we went there, the " HOSPITAL was CLOSED, hello in which world is a HOSPITAL CLOSED and opens up after SIX............ ??????????  We found this "nice" person who kept the cycles for us at his place again a " hospital" and hired a auto for us to go to the nears big hospital........ We went to the hospital "Big " just to see that there is no orthopedic ...... they said we we to go to c.c vellore..... I laughed at them. and told them to go pain killer injection and we'll go to bangalore to get him sorted by a know " HOSPITAL". after that i called up abhi jeet told him wat the scene was, I also spoke to Sri abt me finishing the ride, he said that if u want to complete it go ahead, we'll push for your cause, but they may not have a positive response. On hearing this i was disappointed, i also knew that i had lost time and wouldn't make it any where close to two o'clock even if i met up with shreeju and vergeesh at the middle. We had dosa and caught a bus back to bangalore, Even in catching a bus back to bangalore, these ppl were looting us, two buck for loading the cycles, for wat twnty buck ?? i said, and after sitting on the bus the person come's and says thousand bucks, ?? FOR wat thousand .. 250 for the seat and 250 for the cycle... hello nice way to really scam us.any ways settled for 800 rs, and after reaching bangalore he gave 100 back. As on reaching silk board, prashant's colleague came over, i packed him to his destination and i caught the airport bus to esteem mall :) finished off the day with a spicy burger :). well an adventurous day sould have a yummy ending :)

So next time u go around for a ride always expect the unexpected, that will give u more joy,

Kudos to you Abhi for helping out a fellow rider! Thanks for the report. I'm surprised about the lack of open hospitals too..

You should have pumped some air with Prashant Sharma (?) 's topeak road morph pump and come along some more distance. The the roads weren't all that great afterwards and i was quite slow.

btw, if you haven't completed the 300 yet, we can do it again in Nov - Dec too when the LEL training starts.

Legendary indeed. I cannot forget the day and the ride. It was so eventful. Thanks shreeju for nice report.. YES! You are right.. If we knew about the puncture bit earlier we would have carried on and probably finish the ride. That would have made shreeju a SR. He deserved it. More so after his 400 & 600 heroics..

But never the less it was my most memorable ride and will cherish it forever.
