I have registered to ride 300KM brevet. This will start in the night. Can someone let me know which light can be used in the night to read the cue sheet ? Again same light can be used to fix the flat too. I am thinking of buying headlamp similar to

but not sure how useful it will be.

I think any light will do, provided it works through the night. I
doubt you'll need a 300 lumen light for reading the cueshet :)

So are you planning to use the same light to light up the route?

I have Niterider Mako 150 combo for riding. The light to read the cuesheet will be used occationally. I will go for some mini verion, which will be lighter and comfortable.

More than seeing the cue sheet it is important to have a headlamp to see the readings on the cyclocomputer at night.

I do not think it may work for me. Anyway I will check it out.  Here is my DIY cue sheet holder which is very convenient during the rides.

@Vasu, My cyclocomp and cue sheet are together. Same light will serve the purpose.

Man... you are over thinking this.

If the 300 is on the regular tumkur highway then there aren't many turns on that road. Once you hit the highway all you gotta do is sit on your bike and maintain a cadence of 95 - 100 and watch the miles fly by. You won't need to refer the cue sheet very often.

Flats etc, depends on many factors and more importantly how you maintain your bike *while riding* and if you are careful about what your tyres roll over.

Reading the odo is important so you should have a headlamp. Also keep in mind that the headlamp also illuminates dust particles right in front of your eyes so that is a bit of a distraction. Get used to this feeling *before* the ride.

If you are an IT/Software person then think of the brevet as production environment. The code should be nice, clean and optimized when moving to production. Any/All testing should be done in Dev/QA environment. If you do circus in prod then the admins/client/proj mgr/ etc will throw you out and it might cost you your job altogether. A brevet ride is no different. I know this might sound funny but trust me it isn't.

I can make u a bendable, handlebar mountable, waterproof light in about 50 bucks.. It'll last for hundreds of hours on two AA cells and will be enough to read the cue sheet and odometer for all the brevets you'll ever do in your life, without changing batteries even once.

Nope Khuram. I was too busy in my son's schooling activity and some work pressure. Thought I will contact Hari later as I have one spare light (bontrager) which one I can use it for now.
