Hi,

I am new to this group and very keen to start cycling. I am yet to buy a bike. Although I have read earlier that "it's not the bike but the biker that matters" I would like some suggestions as to which Bike I should go as I'm zero when it comes to cycling equipments and accessories. I did check out Bums on Saddle, they do have a very good collection but they are way above my budget.

Can anyone suggest something on the cheaper side, a Hero bike maybe. Will appreciate your help.

Welcome to the group Devakishor...

IMHO the saying "its not the bike but the biker that matters" still holds true when you are looking to buy a bike. It will read as "its not what the bike has to offer but what the biker wants that matters".... :-)

So go ahead and tell us more about what you would like to do with a cycle, the expectations you have from an owned cycle and you priorities when it comes to buying one.

Ccing... to the group (if you hit reply in gmail then only the sender gets it back, to send to the group hit reply all)

Among the Indian brands you have all kinds of designs available, road, mtb (front/full suspension), city, heavy duty (doodhwala).

As a first step, this might help in deciding which type(s) will suit you http://www.whycycle.co.uk/bike_styles/ (ignore the wheel size at point in time)

Hi Rajat

I am basically looking for a bike to travel around 7-8kms up-down everyday and also suitable for somewhat longish rides.. say 40-50 kms.. once in a while.

Hero Thunder MTB : 6.5-7K - A lot of people will vouch for it.
Hero Thunder Racer : <7.5K (Road bike but then u can go for Hero Hawk
itself which comes for 3.7K).

These are tried and tested. Other models if you go for kindly share
reviews! :) I get most queries for bikes under 10K.

If they made a simple bicycle without frills we could actually manage to get a decent one for around 10K.

The issue is when you start adding frills - suspension, gears, disc brakes etc - you just cannot come up with a good bike. Instead its a compromise !
And most bike manufactures here try and aim for the compromise cause thats the biggest market ! Who wants to spend 10K for a single speed (not that you get a good one for that amount)
