FYI.
Guys,
We had shared the vision of making Jayanagar - a CFC city.
CFC city stands for Child Friendly, Carbon Free and Cycle Friendly (u can also add CAR Free City)
Govt has been positive about this.
Iam sharing with you the report on the bicycle friendly streets.

Pls review, we will be meeting the BBMP commisioner on Jan6th.
Cyclists in jayanagar pls do a review and point to any defects that might be there.

some great work by RACF and Gubbi labs. Murali has posted about this earlier.

Murali, do you think we can have a public demo/meeting where this is explained? we can pitch in to organise it...let us know.

From Gubbi Labs site-
http://gubbilabs.in/BFS_Jayanagar

Having dedicated bicycle lanes in Bangalore has been talked for sometime now. For a variety of reasons this did not see any light all these days. However, in the last few months, with the arduous efforts of the Ride-A-Cycle Foundation (RAC-F), the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), Urban Development Department, Government of Karnataka initiated the Madiwala Cycle Track Project. Alongside, it was also felt essential to take forward the Safe Route to Schools proposal by the RAC-F on to the streets of Bangalore.

Acting on this proposal, DULT held a series of meetings with the officials of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the representatives of RAC-F. As an outcome of these discussions, it was thought to explore some workable measures by means of identifying Bicycle Friendly Streets in certain localities of Bangalore. As a pilot initiative, it was thought best to identify these networks in Jayanagar, Bangalore.

At the instance of DULT, Gubbi Labs prepared a report for Evolving Bicycle Friendly Street Network in Jayanagar, Bangalore.

The primary goal of this initiative would be to: Create bicycle friendly streets in certain localities of Bangalore in a phased manner to encourage cycling as a mode of safe, convenient and sustainable mode of urban transport.

We are happy to note that Gubbi Labs has submitted the report to the Government and the copy of the same is made available here.

The efforts of Ride-A-Cycle Foundation in conceptualizing this initiative and support at various stages during the preparation of this report are gratefully acknowledged.

We also would like to place on record the timely suggestion from Arun Ganesh. The Network Map was developed using the map data available from the OpenStreetMap (OSM) - Thanks to the OSM Community! Once the Network Map is formally approved by the Government, we will be updating the same on the OSM Cycle Map.

For now, we look forward to the realization of Bicycle Friendly Streets in Jayanagar, Bangalore.

Excellent report and initiative. With Namma Metro coming in, right time to raise the pitch!

I hope this can be replicated across Bangalore in a phased manner, I had been in touch with my local MLA in Vijaynagar and he has been receptive to such ideas and will be happy to contribute in whatever way possible.

Thanks,
Sunil
