Hi All,

A couple of us are planning a ride to Krishnagiri this Sunday the
23rd. We plan to start at 5:30 and be back by about 6 - 7PM. Breakfast
and lunch on the way.

Let me know if anyone is interested in joining.

I guess some of you have been to Krishnagiri last week and last month.
Please share your tips if any. Any good places to eat.

Regards,
Vivek

Hi Vivek.

This route is very competitive and challenging. I went there last
Sunday, 16th Oct 2011. The terrain has lot of undulation of ups and
downs. Going will be comparatively easier than coming back. Road all
the way is very nice with decent and manageable traffic in the later
hours.
I would suggest you to start earlier. 04:45 hrs should be good. As I
said, going in easier and when you are coming back, Sun will play all
his cards to tire you. Knowing the undulated terrain, it is better if
you could shake hands with Sun as early as possible and call it a nice
riding day. Only a suggestion though.
On your way, approx. 12-15 km after Hosur, there is a temple and the
place is called by the name "Dakshina Tirupathi". See if you get a
chance to visit.
Now, coming to the food place, no need to worry as there are just
plenty of good and known places. After Hosur, approx 12 km there is
Kamat Upachar to your left, approx. 5-9 km from there you have another
Kamat Upachar to your right, after approx. 10 km from there you have a
Mc D and Cafe Coffee Day. 10-15 km from there you have Adyar Anand
Bhavan (A2B). From A2B, Krishnagiri is 17 km. I had planned for
Krishnagiri, but I could manage only till A2B.
Let me know if you need to know anything more.

Wish you the best of luck and stamina!
Ride hard or stay home!

What's your BMP (Brake Man Power)?

Thanks Anoop for the information and suggestions. I would definitely like to start early, but again it depends on the comfort of the other riders. Lets see how early we can start.

A2B is at ~620m elevation.. depending on which part of bangalore you start.. it is usually between 850m to 900m elevation.
So that explains the elevation loss while going and hence its easy.. the return obviously is not, especially depending on sun and wind.

The stretch between A2B to Krishnagari has more elevation change.. i am not sure about it, folks can add.
Roads are no doubt good and roadbikeable. Food and water is not a problem.

Have fun, ride hard & ride safe,

Rgds,
Nalla.

I would suggest you do Bangalore>Shoolagiri(McD/A2B)>Berigai>Bagalur>Sarjapur>Bangalore. Going to Shoolagiri should be a breeze in the early morning and the climb back will be better via Berigai with silent, empty roads instead of the noisy, traffic laden Hosur road.

Hi Sandeep,

This route sound definitely interesting. I would be more than happy to avoid motor vehicle traffic. Have you been to this route? I hope it is roadbikeable.

The only downside is that it will cut short our ride. Can you suggest a longer route?

Vivek

Been on that route many times, it is road bike friendly.
Longer: http://g.co/maps/pyvef though I do not know the road conditions between Kelamangalam and Shoolagiri
Even longer: Go down from Denkanikottai to Anchetty and come back up and continue the ride.

Can't say, there will be pothole stretches. The stretch from Bagalur to Bangalore though is quite good.

This route looks good. Definitely beats riding on Highway with all that pollution.

@Harsha, Ramesh: What do you guys say? We still have ample time to decide. Lets gather some information before finalizing on the route.

Vivek

I've been on the Attibele-Rayakottai road and then took the left towards Shoolagiri. I was on a hybrid though. The road is not smooth tarmac but I think it would be okay for a road bike.(no potholes). Road is very narrow at times but you'll be surrounded by cabbage and tomato fields most of the time.

vivek,

i'm not boasting-this is my experience

i have done twice one way passing -k'giri, once while doing Bangalore- vellore the other one was while doing yercaud

i have even done dengani koti twice once from ancheti belive me its not that easy you will have 23km of climb all the way

the other was to hogenakal vai hosur via dengani kotai which was easier..,

having mentioned ain't wet blanketing but i would prefer staying k'giri route-where if at all one feels very tired can dump the ride and board bus-which is minimal on other roads..,as well roads

and talking about pollution its ain't worse than bangalore roads and more over this route has ample shoulder and the median so supposed safe to ride even in the dark..,

Cheers,
Ramesh

I know for sure some riders won't mind. But have to check on others. Do you have any alternative?

Ramesh, we had a relatively safer ride. Me and Chetan had falls but nothing major. Chetan dumped the ride because of that though.

All,

It was an fantastic though exhilarating ride. Mustafa was way ahead of us and finished the ride at about 4 pm. Me and Nagaraj finished at 6 pm. Rafi was trailing behind, not sure of when he completed the ride. Chetan rode with us till Krishnagiri but had to take help of a vehicle to come back as he had trouble from an injury.

Rafi, please share the photos and add Chetan to this list.

Vivek
