hey guys,

Today morning i fell down from my bike since it was drizzling and road
is wet enough to skid.
while turning in a bend i applied back break, it skidded and i didnt
have control (i didnt think that MTB Tires skid).
reason for this skid is, rain+turning+apply break+road surface.
(surface is kind of very slippery).

beware of it guys!

First time i am falling down with my bike. So enjoyed! ;)

Use your front brake except in unusual circumstances

If you enjoyed skidding the rear wheel, wait till you skid the front
one. You'll have an absolute blast! :-P

Tell me about it. I too fell down last weekend in the Crit and I think
it was a front wheel skid; do not actually remember as everything
happened very fast.
I am guessing it was front wheel as I bruised my face too. My first
fall too but I am not sure if I am enjoying it ;).

Cheers

Wasnt it you who fell right in front of me? I thought u had the Pedal-Kiss-of-death (pedal hitting the road while turning)

Yeah, I guess there was only one casuality and it was me. I actually
do not remember whether it was the kiss-of-death or not as it happened
very fast.
But it certainly does not make any sense to accelerate on the turns. I
got a little distracted as I had run over a dog just before the crash
and was thinking about it.
It is a different story after all.

Cheers

I believe that the dog was ok as it didnt come to us at the volunteers
area for first aid :)

On a serious note, it is indeed a threat, how to tackle such incidents
in future??

It was actually a puppy and it came in front of me out of the blue. I
ran over him but it did not look like he was hurt a lot as he ran away
crying.
For a minute I was feeling very bad about it and slowed down. After
watching him disappearing in the bushes I thought of continuing and
catching up with others.
And that is when I made the big mistake of pedalling on a turn and
skid face down.

I do not think we can do anything about stray dogs and all. Just keep
an eye when you are riding.

Cheers

The best thing to do is to brake before the turn and bring the bike
down to speeds that you are comfortable to turn with..
and then turn. You may want to feather the brakes if it is downhill
turn. This techniques can be used in anything that you ride / drive.

Never try to apply your brakes while turning whether it is front or
rear unless as chances of loosing control are more.
For those newbies with rush of adrenaline, but feel embarassed when
fall, don't try to accelerate looking at others zoom past you. you
should listen to your body and bike co ordination and feel it. That
lets you decide whether you are OK to sprint or not. It's a confient
builder if the fall doesn't hurt you much though.. . :-)

Badri

I was the one right behind you on that corner... It wasn't a pedal-kiss... You were going way too fast for your thin tires. The road surface was wet and covered with fine sand-like particles, and i think you turned too hard. Secondly, the puppy was fine. Suffering from some minor post-traumatic stess, thats all... ;)

Pankaj,
its not necessary to pedal to have a pedal-kiss. Assume on a deep left
curve you have put down the left pedal still and enjoying the
scenary...

Pankaj,
I guess the puppy must have cursed you and that seem to have worked instantly :)) Sorry, just kidding !!

Actually today I had a very interesting and funny (to an extent scary) incident.. I was riding down my street when I went past a doggie that was on the road (he wasn't sleeping).. I was keeping a decent distance away from him (atleast I thought so) but something went wrong and he initially barked but then started giving me a chase.. I just tried ignoring and pedalling a bit hard (while hiding the fear of being bitten by a street dog and the embarrassment of the those looking) hoping once I reach the end of the street (or his "territory"), he would let me go.. But even after I reached the main road, he kept chasing me up and no matter how faster I bike, he was keeping up pace with my riding.. Even worse, few other rogues (I mean other street dogs :)) joined and couple of them kept chasing me up till I reached the ORR (Tamarind restaurant).. I must have been chased for about 100 to 200 mts only but it was good enough to scare my life out.. It took me a while to calm down and relax.. But certainly thinking about it now, can't help but laugh !!

Hi Basker ,

Never try to bike away from a chasing dog . Thats very dangerous . Instead just slow down , stop and then ride again slowly . Thats what i do even when i am on a motor bike . Its just not worth getting chased by it. If you loose your balance and fall down you might really get bit by it.
Yours truly
