Myeh. You didn't make it clear that it was a cycling oriented session. Semantic noise. I'm sure there are people here who will be interested in this. And as Chiddu said, please don't hijack thread, it hampers both your intended discussion and the ongoing discussion you hijacked.

Also, since this is a cycling related thing, after seeing some updates and making sure this is not a landmark education "come and join get your money" thing, I'll get in touch with you separately and offer whatever little help I am capable of.

Wishing you lots of good luck with this venture.

Regards,
Shankar

thanks all,

The introductory session was to mention that some event was going on and if somebody could make it they could.  It was a request.  And everybody is free to take part or not as per their wish.

sorry for off the topic of workshops.
My community project that I had taken was about "Pedal your life in ".
*(I have made changes in case if peddle didnt suit many)

the intentions of this project are

1. Secure Bicycle stand in most major companies (atleast 20)

2. A club or a group internally maintained in each organization targeted towards such event

3. Making sure that at least to come once in a week and 3 times in a month on cycle or use other means of transport instead of getting single person driven vehicle(cars, or bikes).

4. Making aware of cycle day on each month on the lines of bus day and taking it further to no fuel day in a year.

5. Companies giving other incentives and rewarding with some gifts(may be petty or huge, depends on the interests) for employees those who travel by cycle.

But I cant do it alone in this regards, so am seeking out help from all you guys out there to pitch in and do whatever the least could be done towards that.
some of the points could be implemented in companies and some of them not.  Basically the idea is to get a cycling awareness and also car pooling.

As all you enthusiasts are taking it up to the individual level, I wanted it to be taken to most other companies as well, and create a structure(this can be an internal group or a club or whatever deemed fit) so that, eventually, it becomes easy for ppl to join into such structures and also for our community to grow in length and breadth.

Any other suggestion/plan/ideas, as to how such structures can be put are always welcome.
As Mayank has already said, that the euphoria which would have been created in workshops, eventually dies down, if following isnt done.  And to do that, Mayank and few others cant do it all by themselves, needs more ppl to organize, so it becomes easier to follow on in those companies/or even outside of it.

Now, ppl can pitch in their views about it, and suggest something to be done.

Regards,
Ravi

Dear Ravi,

The topic is definitely OT, however noble its intention maybe. Please do not use this forum for propagating such courses.

you all are a good enthusiastic bunch i have found till now..

there is a great source to increase our cycling community.  I invite all you ppl for such a fantastic course and admired by people all over the world who have participated.
Its called Landmark Education.  There is one session on this sunday from 10 :00 am to 1:00 Pm, its just about 3 hours of introductory session.
I believe that we can have more and more turnouts for cycling.(As, of now the conversion rate from non cycling to cycling has been on a rise.), I also believe, with such kind of an awesome course, the rise will be exponential and its a promise that it will happen.  But dont ask me right away "how it can be", I can assure all you guys that it can be and it will be.  To do this -  "exponential rise of cycling buddies, and to see greenery again will less carbon footprint", I alone cant make it sooner, so I need a helping hand from all you guys.

the current situation - we dont have enough people to take it on further to the next level of leadership, and there are more participants than the leaders, I believe we all together can make it big provided we each can take on leadership in their respective places or surroundings, be it their companies, friends circle, relatives circle or any other area where they see that they can bring in this initiative.

The big reason y I am doing it is -- I myself am a product of such a course, and It has certainly made difference to me and my life.  I know there is still a long way to go.  And, if i can get something(actually its more than the most) out of it, am sure the bicycling community too will get greatly influenced by such actions.

So, I request all you guys, whosoever can make it on this sunday 12th June 2011, to the introductory session, then it will be a great thing.
The venue is in API BHAVAN, near to sigma mall.
Its the first right after sigma mall, and second left from there.
Near allianz franchise, and also behind Mahaveer jain hospital.

And ofcourse, no registration fee or registration as such and fully free.

Am extremely sorry for having not informed earlier.
Plz do contact me - 9972213319    for any further details.
As we dont have a dedicated forum to have the contact details of all you guys, I request you all to call me up for any further clarification or you can give me your numbers in my mail, and I will take up calling each and every one of you to make it big.

1 more victim today :-)

A friend of mine saw some cool ride pics on FB, caught the contagious Bike Flu.
He did a mistake. He called me. As usual brainwashing starts :-) his budget was 5k, hmmm 8k,Ok...10k....max 12k.
He was in HYPERCITY looking @ raleigh cycles. I said take a bike from a bikeshop and not from supermarket in such a way that it hurt him.
His budget was 15k now. He couldn't increase it anymore. So took him to decathlon and got him a rockrider 5.2 ( new model black color ).
He got impressed with the store and staff especially eugene and sanjay. He brought some more accessories ( looks like serious infection )
He went happily riding back....Very soon he might be here on BBC writing his exp....

yup.

Thanks a lot.
As we discussed, Putting up a structure seems to be a bit more helpful than just doing what we have been doing.

well here it goes.

We will have to shortlist the companies in which the BBC community guys are in, and target each and every one of them thro some structures.  ( I guess, we IT folks are the major chunk who come in the basket of - single person driven cars)

Some of the things that we can do.
1. create some internal mailing structure, say a group(may be an emailing group, or a small club)
2. tel them about weekend rides, that you know of, or are which you are doing, so that the posts are regularly updated, and they know whats happeneing in the community
3. When discussing off topics, just insert bicycling too, so that cycling would also come in anytime and everytime.

And for any workshops to be conducted, I myself dont know as of now.
1. Whom should I approach when I have to conduct such workshop in my company...(possibly HR, but be sure there is enough support, or interest shown by tat person, or get somebody in the authority to get approval of)
2. Cycles are good, but what about cycle stands. Keep this at the back of mind, when you have a good number of cyclists in that company, so that you can make the company get the cycle stands too made up for those.
3. What should be my responsibility  or my role in this??  --
as per me, what i(at an individual level) can do is, take it up in my company and approach them first, at my leisure(mind you guys, dont have to spend anytime when you are busy, and nobody is asking to do that, and we know how much time is spent in coffee and also snack breaks :P )

This can be done at companies(by those who are working), colleges(start it guys, I guess, the community has good number of students too joined in), in apartments also.
PPl turning up for such workshop events may be less, but we can keep the initiative alive and ongoing, and dont have to end it with just workshops.

Suggestions for more refined ideas are always welcome.  This structrue can be organized if we can make list of companies, and also list of colleges that we guys are in and also the apartments, which we can target.

As Mr.Mayank, chiddu,  shankar and few others suggested we can cover up most of the areas in this organized way, and can get to know the untouched areas.
Later on, we can maintain this and propagate even further to other localities in our weekend rides to other cities too(i am talking about some of the fanatics and cycling maniacs, who ride to far off places)

+ getting bicycle stands in most of the places is becoming a welcome drive, Make it a point to mention that tooo....

Did you miss the mail from rohan mentioning wheels of change? That is all this and more. Why don't you come to the ibm workshop on thursday? Look out what is missing and then suggest the changes and loop holes.

There were no showers in the manyata office. It will now be installed along with parking equipment. A lot of this is for the company folks to push for. In wipro they got interest free loans for bikes thanks to yatheesh.

Do catchup with rohan to check out the other ideas he is already working on. We plan to try some of those soon possibly with the workshop at dell.
