Hi Guys,
I will ride most of the time in the flat road ( inside bangalore city) .
I'm confused to buy geared or gearless.
Please tell me the benefits of geared and geraless.

What special in 6-speed bicycles than single speed ?

Thanks & Regards

My personal opinion is roads in Bangalore are mostly not very flat !
Add to that flyovers and underpasses.

Having used both, I would recommend a geared one for sure, since that helps when there is even a resonable gradient up.
Plus, you can go faster if you can, and slower more easily if you are tired. Gives you options. :)

I would further suggest to go for a cycle which looks simple, easy to maintain, and take care that the gears are fitted well.
Else, they can be a pain. And of course, you have people here who can help you out (BOTS, Wheel Sports etc.. ), so you shouldnt fear going for a geared one.

In the last 2 years, the number of bicycle varieties in Bangalore has gone up 10 times. The prices also appear to have come down. You can now buy a very nice Firefox Target for Rs.9k at More Megamart at Marathahalli. This used to cost Rs.12k once up on a time. Of course, you also have very nice geared bikes made by TI and Hero.

For city ride, check "Hercules ACT 110 PLus"
Tried it for the first time last weekend as was pretty impressed.
I guess its worth the amount.

+1 to Harsha's suggestion. I in fact rode for 20+KM on Bangalorish
terrain (invisible gradients and flats) and was thoroughly impressed.
For about 11K it's really worth it.

Its always better to go for a geared one. When I bought mine, I
thought "why geared one for the city rides". Now that I started biking
much beyond the city limits I actually regret of not buying a geared
one. So, GO FOR THE GEAR MAN!

BTW - Can anyone help me with this? - Can I change my Hero Hawk to a
geared one without buying a new bike? Or isnt that possible?

Let me remind you that Bangalore city is not flat at all. I thought
the same before I bought a single gear cycle. Later tried working
around it by adding some cheap gear and then later bought a proper
geared one :)

It is extremely tough to cycle in slopes without gear. My knees almost
got killed once in outer ring road, Mysore Rd - Banashankari -
Kanakapura junction itself.
