I happened to be at Chickpet today , while my Schwinn Sporterra front tyre is in the verge of being worn out , was planning to buy one in a short while. I have already replaced my rear tyre , bought a Michelin from Decathlon ( being nearest source from my house) which costed me around 1.5K. The Michelin , I have noticed does feel different from the stock Innova tyres. The Michelin feels more soft yet grips as good as the hard feel of Innova. Let's see how it wears out, the Innova lasted around 3 years ( around 15km/day) in my mostly city commute rides.
Now coming to my Chickpet discovery, in trying to see what Indian tyres are available . I found some not so refined , but very cheap alternatives. I would not recommend these to serious riders. Yet , by their look and feel , could be an alternative to, on budget casual city riders , if used along with good tubes ...especially puncture resistant ones ( which i have been using , bought from Decathlon costing around 200K....though some LBS would also be having them)
Brand Price look and feel
Wanda 850 finishing not so good, edges not symmetric with the counter part ... material seems ok ..light ... smooth ..looks strong ....not a rubbery feel like the Indian tyres (says China make) .
Ralson 350 finishing good , material a little heavy considering Wanda..... or the ones i have used,..... looks strong.....rubbery feel , though it does say nylon on it.
there were other ones priced 450 and 950 which I could not see as the shop keeper asked me to wait for 10 to 15 minutes to locate it, which I couldn't do as I had come for some other purchases.
In case if you want to check out these tyres Ask for Hercules ACT 110 tyres also write the tyre size (all that you see on your tyre and exactly as it show up on the tyre) on a note, legible and a little big and show it to them.
I visited around 9 shops of which 3 shops had them , there could be more shops stocking them, since I was not planning to buy one today and being out of time , left the scouting for some another time. The shops i visited were the few in the start of the KR Market near Town Hall ( Madras Cycle.....etc) and the ones at the lower end of the TCM Royan road (near the Mysore road bridge) as well the middle.
