RACF with support from BMTC is installing BICYCLE RACKS at all TTMCs.
We will be installing @ Kengeri, Shivajinagar, Banashankari, Vijayanagar, Koramangala to begin with.

Currently it is installed @ BANASHANKARI TTMC for trial.
BMTC is eager to install bicycle racks at critical junctions like HEBBAL, SILKBOARD.
But they do not have their own space and security is a issue.
Any idea how we can resolve this issue ?

Murali,

One more suggestion.
We have to also approach the BMTC &  transport commissioner also & try to create parking space at all TTMCs built by BMTC.

In my opinion, this can be instrumental in improving bike friendliness around the city.

Like for example, there are people from around Banashankari, kumarasawmy layout, isro layout, padmanabhanagara who are keen to ride either till banashankari TTMC(park & catch a bus here) or Kuvempunagara bus stand(BTM - park here&  walk to central silk board to catch buses to EC or ITPL/ORR).
The problem for people mentioned in above areas are that they cannot get a direct bus from there places.
The space at BTM can be helpful for all people living in BTM &  on either sides of Bannerughatta road in a radius of 3-5km.

A similar set up will work wherever people have a last mile(atleast a last few )  connectivity issues & you dont need a superbike for commutes under 5km(though we know the benifits of good bikes:) )
Moreover, people can ride small distances in normal attire. So may not always require to change clothes after reaching office.

While office commuting is the most preferred,

Bike+ Mass transport can be the new equation!

I feel the need to consider, build&  improvise on this thought seriously

Yateesh

I think we just have to approach the management and sensitize them and they will install racks. Forum has created a free zone for bicycle parking with no fee for parking cycles.
Instead of being  angry when denied space make an attempt to create a space @ Garuda Mall.

Anyway we have requested the Commissioner BBMP to pass a ORDER for making BICYCLE RACKS COMPULSORY IN ALL MALLS.

Simple. Ask private players to handle security and maintenance. In Calcutta, beside each bus stop/stand and each and every railway station (not only bus terminals) there are completely private cycle stands for parking cycles. They used to charge 5 rs (5-10 yrs back). There is no government involvement in that. Its totally an independent private initiative based on demand and supply. Regular sized cycle shops were double / triple level with about 200-1000 cycle storage capacity.

But asking private players is a challenge since they look for return on investment and I dont see any since there is a SCARCITY of cyclists in bangalore.

However, of late Kolkata has banned cycling inside the city in certain locations - http://www.kolkata-city-cyclist.blogspot.in/
