Hi everyone,
We did do the 200+ the last Sunday. It was just the two of us. Preetham and I. Had it been a Saturday may be some more people might have joined. But some commitments on Saturdays made it difficult for us to have it on a Saturday.
I started off at 5 from my house at KR Puram. Met Preetham at 5:30 at Marathalli. We set off... Deciding that we shall get out of the city ASAP. We decided to stop at Kanakapura for breakfast. Had a few banana and water breaks in between. Reached Kanakapura's Ratna upahar at about 9. Had our breakfast. Filled our water bottles and left. We reached Sangama at about 10:30. We had spent b about 4:30 hours on the saddle and a total of 5:30 on the road. Spent some time at the Sangam. Took a Tippe ride. By the time we decided to leave it was about 12.
The next 2 hours were the toughest to ride. The weather that was great until now pitched my nemesis against us. Plus the steep hairpin bends. Most of which we walked. My bike gears/chain kept slipping for some reason I didn't understand. Later I worked out a strategy to continue overcome this fault by changing to very low gears. It was slow. But at least, it didn't slip. By the time we reached the same restaurant for lunch, it was 2:30. Having done 140k. We were thinking of hitching a ride back home. We later decided not to compromise on the glory of finishing the ride fully without giving up. When we got back on the saddle. Post lunch the weather was much friendly. But our overall pace was much slower. We took much more frequent breaks to rest and drink water. The ride until we reached Guhantara was still OK with the road rising and falling. After that the route was pretty steep one way. We continued to pedal together until we hit traffic, and then lost sight of Preetham after we got muddled up in the city traffic. I got a call from him a while later and we decided to part ways and reach home on the routes that was shortest to each of us.
By the time I reached home it was 9 at night. Called Preetham to tell him I reached home. Summarised my ride to my family. Called few others who had wished me good luck for the ride. Got fresh. Ate biriyani and then retired to bed.
It was a much needed break after a few hectic weeks at work. The mind was relaxed and recharged for my new assignment at work! Overall a very satisfying ride...
Cheers,
Santosh
Suggestion -- the BLR-Mysore-BLR ride that Anil is organizing is this weekend, right? I assume Anil's ride will be via Kanakpura road. You people could ride one way with them, if it's the same day. You can experience riding in a large group.
