Hello Friends,

Till now, i have been using the platform pedals both in my hybrid and road bike.
Considering the long rides and tours in near future, i am planning to upgrade to better pedals.

I am planning to go with Magnetic Pedals.

Those who use magnetic pedals, please do share your experiences, brands you use, pros and cons of the same.

Happy Cycling!

Best Regards
Karthik

For better understanding of the readers, i am not talking about SPD pedals(clipless), but magnet pedals as such.

Hi Karthikeyan,

I'm also looking out to buy new platform pedals.

Do the magnetic pedals add any advantage? The wiki page does not mention much.

Regards,
Vivek

Never heard of them, but I just can't imagine any commercially available magnet strong enough to offer decent retention.

seems to be a option for those who want upgrade from platform pedals but not togo for clipless.
would be nice to know if someone responds back who is using the same.

Where are they available? There would be reviews there usually.

It looks like a bad idea. If this is intended for touring where you would walk also, I cant imagine walking with a magnet under my feet and pick up nails and bolts from the roads!!! Better off with a SPD touring pedals which are quite comfortable. Well its from Mavic, but still its a bad idea and not worth trying.

Cheers,
Venkat Rajmohan.

i think magnet is in the pedals, not on the shoes..

Yup, makes sense. Checked and its in the pedals. Not sure about how effective the "clip out" is. If it is easy, then the pull also would not be substantial. Quite a few reviews on the net, but not worth the buy.

I got to know a person who moved from clipless to magnet pedals for the very reason of easy clip out option.
still waiting for some more reviews from those who use it.

If the main reason to change from normal shoes is to prevent slipping, these will work. Looking at the photo, the groves on the shoe align with those on the pedal preventing slipping; the magnet is just there to provide a little bit of support, and not actually hold the shoes to the pedal.

If you just want something different, you should get these:) http://www.ultralitesports.com/

Srinath Rajam uses them. Saw it just now on FB. You could contact him and check.

Hi Deepak,
I got the info from him only. Wanted to get a feel about it from more riders and then go for it.
Nice person he is!

do share what you conclude - I'm thinking of dumping my SPD-SLs - haven't decided whether to go to platforms or something else.
