All,

I've been breaking my head over an upgrade (MTB). Many of the guys/forums I've sought help from say KHS offers great cycles. I havent actually rode one.

I know Wheelsports deal in KHS cycles - but its in JP Nagar and I stay near HAL. So I am unsure about the services etc - going there once for buying is cool, but for everything beyond my limited skills in bicycle maintenance I couldnt dream of going all the way to JP Nagar.

My closest and relatively dependable LBS is RR Cycles at Marathalli - can I trust them to service/repair KHS if the repair or correction is beyond me? - would they actually handle a brand they dont deal in? Yes, I could go ask them :), but if someone already knows, pray help.

And if you also have the time and inclination:

1. I am also considering Cannondale Trail 6, Trail 5 29er, Schwinn Frontier Elite - all 2012 models.
2. I've read the individual reviews, rode the Cannondales. Slightly put off by the price

So the help I seek: Whats the best offer you've come across for the above mentioned bikes, and where.
Which of the above, in a comparative call, would you overwhelmingly recommend?

Regards,
Anand.

oh i see i mentioned JP Nagar. Apologies - i was thinking of something in JP Nagar and ended up typing it.

I did mean Chamrajpet and thats cumbersome too in the relative sense.

Going to Wheelsports for servicing KHS is highly recommended. Even if you have to travel to the other end of the city. Other small time repairs should be done at home. DIY. And once you start doing it you will know its not rocket science and will enjoy it too.

My experince w RR - did not see any decent experience in service. Going 10kms for service once in a while is no biggie.
My suggestion - pick bike from a place where folks really know bikes and ride them. The premium if any/distance is worth it

I do agree with the principle. To slightly reword my request, I was more checking to see if there is an equally good place to service/repair near my area, especially on a brand that isnt sold in the area.

I also intend to check out ProCycle, which seems much closer - but have no clue on the Giant and Fuji bikes. A visit this weekend should help.

DIY - well, I am getting my fingers dirty for the first time - so maybe 6 months from now, I should probably be pretty self sufficient. But an expert reachable quickly is a boon, and I should think Indiranagar, Marathalli etc should have places where the guys have had good experience.

Any help is great at the moment :)

The only people available near Indiranagar and Marathalli are RR. You might want to avoid them if you love your bike !!
Dont know where ProCycle is.

Hey even I didnt get good service experience in RR marathalli. I want to do a full service of my bike. Was wonderin where to go. I read the the mail chain here (all mail threads) and i think BOTS is the place. I stay in Domlur and koramangala is fairly close.

Anand,

You are thinking too much. Stop it

One a bike, chances are very less for a catastrophic damage. Unless you  hit your bike on a wall may be in high-speed ? Or, you have parked your bikes and a truck drove over your bike?? OMG!!

At the worst case, (if your drive train is broken, crank is jammed!!??, Wheels bent ??!! spokes broken ?!!!!, handle bar/headset broken ??!! OMG!!!)  You should be able to carry your bike in an auto./car

It is always advisable to take your bike to wheelsports for any  repair rather than taking your bike to any other shops.

I live in  Mathikere and I bought my bike from Wheelsports. I go there for servicing my bike.

Stop thinking and go to wheelsports.

Thanks,

Dev

Talking abt East Blore - I've had done some basic work at Decathalon Sarjapur and the guys there (Eugene esp) seem to be good

Also seems like Procycle in Indiranagar should be filling in the needs of cyclists such this side of town.

Dev,

That was quite to the point :) Appreciate the feedback. Yep, maybe I am making too much of 10km. If KHS it is that I pin down on, then I think I shouldnt mind the distance.

Which is where my request for the second bit of information comes in :) Of my three other choices, any you guys think is clearly a winner?
