At Bannerghatta Road Shopper's stop - I parked my bike paying the fee.

But I had already read on this group that the FORUM mall does not
allows bikes to parked inside. But I wished to give it a test again,
though I had done a verbal inquiry few months back.

In line of the motorcycles lane, with helmet on the head, I drove
straight in with confidence...

I raised hand for the entry slip from the attendent . He said "Cycle
not allowed"

I replied - 'Yes, earlier it was not allowed - but its permitted now.
" I stood confident. He thought for while then asked " BIKE
NUMBER !!! " I said "HERCULUS - WOW 21 " He must not have heard that
number :) He said me to wait and gave me a parking slip to write down
my bike number " I wrote my "BIKE NUMBER" and went in to park the
bike..DONE

Ice was broken !!

I did the necessary shopping confidently and came back to the parking
lot. Bike was there !! I took it and came out. While coming out the
security officer saw me from a distance and he was surprised to see
me. And other security persons smiled seeing me showing them out the
slip and Rs.20 note for the fee. :D

'How CYCLE went in..!! ' he surprised seeing other security persons. I
replied - " Bikes are allowed now - it has been decided ( by
management ) " :D No argument followed.

Even being busy he commented to me 'For the first time a CYCLE was
allowed'

I came out with a feeling of victory !! " I had a strong feeling that
- its achievable to convince them for future parking needs"

But some questions arises ;
1. How we can convince the Shopping mall's management for a Bike
parking place ?
2. What about the bike number ( otherwise keeping a Hero MTB one can
come out with a Trek )
3. Can we have special parking area for our Bikes?
4. What are the other malls whether we can park the bikes SAFE ?

<RA> This is the real problem, bikes are not considered at par with motor-vehicles for parking

I replied - 'Yes, earlier it was not allowed - but its permitted now.

<RA> i think it should be the norm rather than an exception

I came out with a feeling of victory !!  " I had a strong feeling that
- its achievable to convince them for future parking needs"

<RA> I second that thought , I am equally confident that it should be possible to convince them to add bike racks as well.

But some questions arises ;
1. How we can convince the Shopping mall's management for a Bike
parking place ?

<RA> I volunteer to be part of a small group that formulates a win-win plan for cycle parking to be presented to mall managements in bangalore as well as pitch the idea to them face-2-face.

2. What about the bike number ( otherwise keeping a Hero MTB one can
come out with a Trek )

<RA> Bike make and serial number (maybe last 4-5 digits) should work equally well.

3. Can we have special parking area for our Bikes?

<RA> Around 10 cycles (maybe more) can be parked in the space for a single car given a proper rack or securing bar

4. What are the other malls whether we can park the bikes SAFE ?

<RA> imho any place with paid parking is somewhat safer than parking on the street, in any case most parking places deny liability for any damage "Parking at owners risk" remember!!

Hi Bikers,

We too face the same problem in Pune whenever we visit any Shopping Complex. I found that in some Complex Parking its free for Bikes & somewhere security stops us & say that parking is only for two wheelers, then we need to argue to prove that a Bike is also a two wheeler. And all the time we are successful to prove this.

Actually, Bikes were avoided to be parked because most of the Bomb Blasts happened in recent times were fitted in Bikes & after the Blast its not easy for Police to Trace the History of Bike because of absence of Unique Registration Number. So, security personnels are doing there jobs & we must keep proving that Bike is a two wheeler.

Cheers MTB,
Pankaj

Garuda lets me park for no fee along with the bikes of its employees and it is absolutely safe. I parked there for some 4 hours and picked my bike post 2230 and it was still there.

Though in case of Trek/Merida/fancy looking stuff, might be a good idea to chain it tightly to something.

Good idea, Prem!

I dug up an old article from Deccan Chronicle that mentioned the name
of some manager in Forum as 'Merveil Verghese'. Let's all use his name
and soon the security guards will assume that Mr. Verghese actually
decreed that cyclists will be allowed :)

I was allowed in Lido mall parking lot without any fuss. I could find
a mesh where i chained the bike.
But those days parking for motorbikes was also free.

The idea of banning cycles from Mall has more to do with the social status attached to cycles than anything else.

Typically cycles are associated with the lower strata of the society which the mall owners want to keep out, hence the Ban!

All you need to do is to show them the reality on cycles and you gain access.

its akin to driving a 2 wheeler to a 7 start hotel, probably some day you might get to hear that 2 wheelers not allowed there also!

I went to Eva Mall on Brigade Road and the security fellow created
quite a fuss about parking - he insisted that I park my bicycle along
with the employees where there was no place to even squeeze a pair of
roller skates let alone a bicycle. I said I was willing to park
wherever as long as he showed me adequate space, but he effectively
told me that I could pile my bile on the other bikes if necessary but
could not par outside the line. I insisted on having a chat with the
manager, explaining to him the need for using bicycles increasingly in
Bangalore without the slightest hope that he would relent. He actually
did and saw my viewpoint and instructed security to allow parking
sensibly in the parking area, was pleasantly surprised.

Its time to list the places where parking of cycles is allowed. So if one goes around the city it would be helpful to know if a place does allow parking of bikes.

What say? I have made a beginning here.

Regional Passport Office .Koramangala . I had a big fight with them 2
weeks back when I tried to park my cycle in the two wheler parking
zone .
Even though I told the person that I will pay the Rs 10 /- parking
fee he did not allow me to park. I went and complained to the police
constable but he did not do anything . Finally I ended up parking in
front of the Darshini outside the office .
