Hi ,
I bought a Schwinn Frontier from RR cycles Madiwala 4 days back. The
pedals of it has been breaking off.
I weigh around 82 kgs. They replaced the left pedal when it cracked .
Now the right one has broken off. Did you guys face anything like
this ?

Hi Navin/All,

Even i am facing a same problem in my firefox kompac as i am weighted about 90 kgs, 6'4" height. But i am surprised not a single time bicycle is flattened...

I have a question. Is our body weight is placed on pedals or tyres...

Thanks
Regards
Iqbal

The tyres are what takes the weight. I think the plastic pedals can
only take certain amount of stress . They are cracking from inside. I
got it replaced by VP pedals for 450/- (650 -200 for the older ones).
I do stand up and ride many a times. I looked at the costlier ones
like Dahon and cannondale and found most of them come with aluminium /
VP.

hi all,

With no intention of hijacking the subject - i have a friend who is
looking forward to buy the Schwinn's Frontier Expert Bike.
One of the reasons he wants to go for it is that he reckons that he
wants the disc brakes for sure and at a affordable price. So Trek,
Giant and Merida is out of his budget. Product Link :

So my queries is about - how is the bike doing - in mean on Bangalore
kinda of roads and on other terrains - he plans to do some trails in
future.
Feedback about this bike would be appreciated and also is it value-for-
money?

Cheers
Shilpa

I've been using this cycle for past four months, this bike doing well
for me.
So far no problems, except jerk in the front shock absorber when I
press front brake slightly harder(I don't know this is normal or
not).
Even after changing with decathlon shock absorber(Spinner eagle) I'm
noticing that jerks.
Gear ratio is limited, Maximum gear ratio you can use with this is
42/14(I've to use higher cadence if want more than 30Kmph on flat
roads), where other MTBs has 42/11. It has steel handle bar, I
replaced it with aluminum handle bar.

Positive side.
Excellent brakes.
Rised handle bar gives me comfortable riding position.
Its very attractive(Mine is maroon colored one last year model) eye
catching one.
I'm using this cycle for regular commuting and trail rides its doing
well for my propose.

I bought this cycle because I got it for 9.5k in secondhand with show
room condition.

Next cycle which fixes limitations of this cycle is Rockrider 5.3(Gear
ratio42/11, fully aluminium, 100mm travel shock absorber with lockout,
Sram shifters etc).

Hey,

I've been using the Frontier expert since September last year, on the whole i've like the bike. the only problem i have is that since 2 week i;ve noticed that the handle tends to get a bit stuck in the straight position , I suppose it  needs some greasing , does anyone know where i can go to get this sorted?

I think its called indexed steering,
once it happened for me also when I over tighten star-nut bolt which
is on top of handlebar stem,
i have fixed mine by changing headset(got it from decathlon) though
changing crown race was sufficient. It happens if
bearing surface gets dents then this problem could occur.

You can read more about this problem in this link under topic "Indexed
Steering" ("Brinelling"),

Hi shilpa,
in my view, in a place like bangalore you dont need a disc-brake for
following reasons
1. difficult to maintain
2. v-brakes are more than sufficient even if are riding trails.
3. disk-brakes are more useful when you are riding in wet conditions
and ona down hill. as the v-brakes tend to perform not so well when
wet.
4. every time you take out the wheels, you got to be very careful
about the disc. as there are every chance of bending it. and storing
the wheels when it is off the bike is also you got to be careful about
for the smae reason.

i will always prefer a v-brakes over disc brake when riding in city.

Hey Prakash

thank you very much , I read the article on the link.
Now i want to know if you did the replacement on your own or did you go to someone??
I am not a member of the Decathlon so I wont be able to buy it from there!!
How much did it cost you?

Thank you
