Hello,
yesterday I did JPNagar-Jigani-Thattekere-Harohalli and return route and on the way back met a fellow cyclist who did Ragihalli route and he said no one bothered to stop at forest gate.

So today I went there around 7AM at the gate and no one stopped. So the route seems to be open for cyclists (for now.) At the other end of the forest gate, I even stopped and chatted with the forest guard. He said there are elephants & all such wildlife is still there but they are deep in the forest on the other side of the hill.

May be Forest dept uses, GPS trackers, Drones etc to monitor elephant movement, Dunno? But the road is open and IT IS AWESOME!

After Ragihalli road turns to quite sketchy, sandy stony uneven gravel with quite a gradient and I managed with 28C tires. Not sure if it is good Idea to try from other side (Kamalapura.)

I did see cyclists at regular intervals on Thattekere-Jigani road but no one on Ragihalli route. So just wanted to update so other cyclists can enjoy this route as long as its open.

Thanks for the update Praveen.

This is good news, I hope it continues to be open to cyclists. I had been turned back a couple of times earlier (both solo and in a group) and did not venture that side on the cycle again. I have seen an elephant once on that stretch , but I was in a friends car to go to the Ramakrishna ashram for some volunteer work.

G-maps also seems to show the tiny cross road from Ragihalli towards the new IIM-B campus in Jigani has some bus stops, is this road also open to cyclists ?

The widening of the Jigani - Thattekere road has made it less scenic, some of the climbs have been flattened out, and there is a lot more traffic, so that route is no longer much fun. I usually take the other side of Bannerghatta Park now, JP Nagar- Taralu- Muninagara- Gottigehalli-Dyvasandra to have a peaceful and scenic route, and most of it is good enough for roadbikes, barring a few broken stretches.

Regards,
Parag

Dear friends,

Hello and happy new year

Not quiet sure about legality as there are trespassing laws, so be careful.

What i am wondering is how come those tyres can ride on gravel? Don't they just damage the cycle or at least the tyres?

Would be great to know how yo manage to ride on gravel with those tyres without damaging the bike

Thanks for the pics.

Regards,
Gourav

Hello Parag,
strange that you asked this question about that small route going before iim-B to the other side of the hill. Actually, yesterday I just went there out of curiosity, I just went to the hilltop on the other side and returned but the locals said that route also reaches Ragihalli or Ragihalli road, not sure. I did not continue yesterday that side as I was not sure. But it also has very good views and quite a bit of gradient. Will check g-maps again.

Good to know about this route -----> JP Nagar- Taralu- Muninagara- Gottigehalli-Dyvasandra, will check/ride next time, thanks.

Hello Gaurav,
interesting point about the legality. I wondered that this may be a planned decision taken by forest dept. As I said, I chatted with the Forest guard and he was all smiles and talked about elephants and other wild animals that they are now deep inside. He did not seem to care that I was on cycle.

As far as sketchy downhill gravel, I have a steel bike & fork, so it was all okay.
