Hi All,

Along with a friend of mine, Niraj, I went on a 6 day bike ride from Mysore to Trivandrum covering a total distance of 770km. We avoided the NH roads as much as possible and didint miss out on the forest routes. We also took cues from previous ride reports of Sriram and Ravishanker to plan this trip. Thanks to them for the guidance.
The accommodation at most places have been at nice homestays. Niraj was with me till Vaikkom. The rest of the journey was completed by me. Along the way we took three ferry crossings which was an excellent experience. Bandipur, Mudhumalai forests and all needs no introduction to bikers here as they continue to be our paradise. We also found tht the best advantage with biking is that it is the right speed at which we can cover considerable distance in a day and at the same time enjoy the surroundings and register the sightings properly. I am planning to prepare a writeup on this and since it will take some time, I thought of sending you the route map and pics from the tour

This is the travel itinerary

fri25-Sep     DAY0-  Bangalore     > mysore by bus
sat26-Sep   DAY1-  mysore         > masinagudi   (100km)
sun27-Sep  DAY2-  masinagudi   > sultan battery(100km)
mon28-Sep DAY3-  sultan battery> calicut          (115km)
tue29-Sep   DAY4-  calicut          > thrissur         (140km)
wed30-Sep  DAY5-  thrissur        > Alleppy         (160km) via Vaikkom, kumarakom
thu01-Oct    DAY6-  Alleppy        > trivandrum     (155km)

The ride was just awesome and very comfortble as I didnt have any side effects after it. We also didnt prepare much for the ride and the max we would have done recently would be around 75k day riding. I think with such rides, it is the excitement and the enthusiam that gets you going rather than the physical preparedness :-) The ride also featured in Mathrubhoomi (a regional newspaper in Kerala)

Hi Mallik,

Hero Thunder responded much above the expected lines during the trip. For the first 5days it didnt give any problem. For the last day, the pedal crank loosened a little bit but was still ok to pedal. The weather was also excellent. Luckily for us it didnt rain much. Overcast condition prevailed for a long time but never rained hard except for an hours rain during the last day of the trip. In all the conditions were very good for cycling. I forgot to mention which bikes we were using (eventhough it can be evident from photos), I was on a Thunder MTB and my friend on a 4300

Yeah that stretch was just amazing..The roads were broken at some parts but if you have a good bike and a conditioned brakes there is no issue at all. In fact, from the 6 day trip, I would say day 1,2,3 put together, from Mysore till Calicut (via Masinagudi, Sulthan Bathery) is too good and only about 300kms and can be done over a 3 day long weekend.
