Hi all ,

This is jagannath . I am new to this forum and have recently started commuting to my office on a cycle( Malleshpalya to millers road) .

After much research and thought which basically included reading this group's post end to end and several day-dreams about cruising on roads on an awesome bike , i finally bought a bianchi camaleonte 1.

Now this bike of mine is awesome if i do say so myself , infact it is so full of awesomeness that i think maybe riding it is a little too easy. You see I do 15 km trip to office and back every weekday making it 30km/ weekday but i am not feeling any exhaustion. Infact on the ride back (millers road to malleshpalya) i hardly break a sweat (it is downhill incline st some places ). Now you have to understand I took up cycling mainly for too reasons , going green and cardio , so while i am nailing the going green part i feel that the cardio part is somewhat lacking specially during the return journey.

On the other hand the journey from my home to office is somewhat uphill and that requires a considerable amount of effort on my part, but this route has a lot of traffic. So could you guys suggest me some other roads which have a considerable upward incline are wide and relatively traffic-free for rides on the weekends. Please keep in mind that i am a relatively new cyclist and would probably be comatose before i complete even 1/4th of that nandi hill climb.

Thank you and hope to meet you all sometime soon

There r no traffic free stretches in bglr to train. If u need hill training, take a good flyover, reach there early in the morning on a weekend, n keep repeating it.

I train sometimes on the itc flyover near ulsoor. Good one to keep climbing....

Hi Jaganath,
whcih Maleshpalya (beyond tippasasndra ?)
t ake the diversion form O M Road via Kalpalli Cemetery into cox town. a good long uphill, but narrow!
in general bangalore south west and west has more hills, university  campus, West of chord road , mahalaxmi layout, Iscon temple ! but that is a bit off form your daily ride. the next thing is indeed Nandi hill !
cheers georg

@Georg: you are amazing man. Yes, you got the correct Malleshpalya.
@jagannath: i stay at Malleshpalya too bro. For inclines you can try
Marathahalli railway flyover. The stretch from kundanahalli to
marathahalli side is a good one. About 5-6 kms only from our area.
The OM rd to Hebbal ORR has got good underpass too.
The HAL police stn stretch is decent too.

There is one more good stretch,

ORR to Old airport road shortcut, newly laid road, no traffic. (near to karthik nagar)

Approximate GPS co-ordinates.
12.968392,77.693549
12.96858,77.701424

Thanks

Yeah i see the roads around marathalli .. i will try them out surely. The one near karthik nagar is going to be tested this sunday .
Besides i have far too much time on my hand during weekends so roaming around in south bangalore is also a good idea.

Thank you all for the replies.

@Georg yep as nalla said its the one behind malleshpalya .. and yes nandi hills is the next climb :)

@ Nalla awesome ... i live in 11 the main malleshpalya . Both me and my flatmate commute by cycle . See u on the road sometime

Thank You

If you want to experience real killer climbs you should visit
ChandraLayout/Nagarbhavi or Nandini layout. From 6-8 the traffic is
relatively less. You wont find higher gradient climbs anywhere including
Nandi.

A couple of other areas - around raja rajeshwari nagar and the road
that connects to kengeri. Some new layouts are coming about and the
roads are relatively new and traffic free. There might be some
construction debris strewn around. Sorry I don't have the GPS co-
ordinates.

Ullala upanagar and Vishweshvaraiah Layout near Kengeri are very good
for practice rides..

Very less traffic ( almost nil ) as most parts of the layout are still
empty very good roads and variety of terrain you can choose from ( MTB
or Road ) . Bangalore University is another nearby destination and
heaven for MTBs. you may try offroad rides too...

Badri

You can do in it inside Vyalikaval. You can do
Vyalikaval>Malleswaram>Vyalikaval.you can go there from millers road
through road paralle to loafers lane and then bda magic box and
guttahalli. Or you can push past sampige road and ride uphill in
malleswaram.Take crossroads everywhere.

Cheers.

I'm not sure about traffic free but chandra layout to nagarbhavi and back is pretty much a mix of long ascents and descents. Normal roads feel like flyovers there. Especially the chandra layout main road.
