Subject: [BBC] Swedish cyclist looking for biking friends

Hi! My name is Richard and live in Stockholm, Sweden. In the end of march, I'm going to Bangalore and will stay for about 8 months.

I love cycling and looking for new friends to show me some nice routes. While in bangalore, I live in dollars colony, yelahanka. So if there is any group rides in north bangalore that would be perfect.

Is this the place to look for group rides? I found something on the internet called Bangalore Bikers Club, could that be something for me?

Looking forward to hear from you.

Hi Richard,

How are you doing? You have reached out to the right forum to set yourself up with like minded folks while in Bangalore. Having been on the saddle for a little over 3 years now has led me to discover trails in and around Bangalore (South Bangalore). There are a lot of groups who do regular rides during weekends and I am sure you will hear from fellow bikers on this forum soon as I am not aware of trails in the North side (Live in the South).

Good luck and enjoy your stay in Bangalore.

Cheers,
Manoj

There are wonderful trails and roads in and around North Bangalore. Hesarghatta is all you need :). Let me know once you land in Yelahanka and we can surely plan for some short and long rides!

Welcome to India.
You will have a good company with the hebbal riders. They are all around yelahanka.

aarrgh! Roadie Scum.

Well you will have to hit the unfortunate Bellary Road often enough to reach Nandi. You can always take Mr Shankars road, but you may get lost for the first few times if you head out unassisted. Once you get used to it its a brilliant route.
Otherwise take ORR to Magadi Road and its a good ride from NICE Road junction.

To get around all the traffic just pack your bike in the car (I'll tag along in these cases :)) and head out to the more famous Sivas Road or to the Nandi base and do repeats.

Try and avoid the main roads during the hours when normal people are supposed to be awake. The roads are jam packed unless you are a City Biker in which case welcome to Bengaluru :)

On Wednesday Nights, be ready to rip through the late night Bangalore traffic starting from HRC.

Richard,
Ignore Aditya, he swings both ways, I've seen him on a roadie before. There are a couple of groups who ride on the nothern side of Bangalore, the aforementioned Hebbal Riders (mostly Road I believe) and the guys (Ado, Me, Marcus. Lior and others) who ride from Jakkur to the surrounding countryside. The Jakkur riders (I just made that name up) are all off-roaders, but I'd suggest for an expat like myself, this would be the way to go for the experience of the Indian countryside. It's wonderful cruising through huge quarries, coconut plantations, forest plantations and little villages. I'd strongly recommend bringing an MTB over (or buying one when you get here).
I live in Dollars Colony, and Aditya lives close by (or is it Dollars too Ado, not sure where the borders are?)
Let us know when you're in Bangalore and have gotten a decent fat wheeled ride.

I am not sure if I am in Dollars Colony or not but as you said its pretty close.

My intention is to buy a bike in bangalore. Maybe I buy a MTB instead of a road bike then, haven't decided yet.
