Minister for UD, Suresh Kumar had assured some action to promote cycling among the employees, but we need to see if they will bicycle to office to get that 200/-. and the recommendation needs to be implemented

Pay panel recommends bicycle allowance

Bangalore, Apr 1, 2012, DHNS :

Several allowances of the State government employees will go up considerably if the government accepts the recommendations of the Official Pay Committee in toto.

To promote the use of bicycles, the panel has recommended that a sum of Rs 200 a month be paid to the employees who cycle for official purposes.

Some of the major recommendations concerning benefits and allowances are:

Benefits

* Enhance maximum limit of Earned Leave that can be surrendered at the time of retirement from the existing 240 days to 300 days. 

* Fifteen days of Earned Leave may be surrendered every year for encashment. 

* Leave Travel Concession may be extended twice during the tenure of service ; the facility is now available once during the service

* Maternity leave be extended to 180 days from the present 135 days.

* A govt servant stagnating in the same post for 25 years be granted one more increment (second additional increment) in the same pay scale and if the stagnation is for 30 years, he or she may be given third additional increment. 

* Festival advance be increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 3,500.

* Advance for car may be increased to Rs three lakh from Rs two lakh; from Rs 30,000 - Rs 50,000 for motorcycle/ scooter and from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 for purchase of bicycles. 

* To increase advance for purchasing computers to 
Rs 40,000 from Rs 35,000. 

* House repair allowance  - to Rs four lakh from Rs two lakh.

* Persons with disability may be allowed to follow flexi working hours. 

Allowances 

* Increase additional charge allowance to 7.5 pc  from 5 pc fo the basic pay. The present ceiling is Rs 1,000. There should be no ceiling. 

* Rates of conveyance allowance may be increased in range of Rs 200 to Rs 100.

* Fixed travelling allowance be increased in the range of Rs 50 to Rs 250.

* Uniform allowance for employees of police, transport, excise, fire force, heath and family welfare  departments may be revised.

Reduce taxes dear govt. those Indian bikes no one can ride daily to offices.....!!!!

The impracticality of implemention. Maybe it is a joke, the article is dated April 1 :-)

200 is really a joke especially when you are giving sops to buy car and bike in the same breath but something is better than nothing I guess to make a start.

And yet tens of millions of people do just that on a daily basis.I wonder how that is possible?

haha, thats the difference between "living to ride" and "riding to live" :)

I think, this should be very useful for people like the postman and other people who are completely dependent on their "vehicle" for the job.

Liked it MJ....Living to ride and riding to live....So why not ride happy !!!

I think we should start on thinking something like One Laptop per child ( OLPC) kind of project for cycles also( One cycle per child) and bring down the cost for good bikes. Give good bikes to Indians !!!!
