Dear Friends,

I would like to fix a disc break for my Trek 4300. Is it possible?

Please share your views.

Thanks and Regards,

Yes it is possible, for that along with the new disc brakes, and new disc compatible rims.

I think the frame is already compatible, not sure of the fork though.

Dear,

Yes it is possible.

But might cost you more

1st
Check the Hubs if they have the provision to put disc the (trek 4500 has it)
trek 4300 You have to change the hub sinice it is not disc compatible
.
2nd
Forks & Frames these days have the provision for the brake caliper (advantage of the branded bikes)

3rd.
Choice of brakes
Mech type or hydro type
Brand
Disc size
and many  other things.....

To know more

But why do you want to move to disc brakes? They definitely need higher maintenance and brake pads arent available in every bike shop.

Hi,

I feel this is very personal choice.

Maintenance issues are almost same with V-brakes and Disc brakes in whole topic. it just which comes early and what performs better.

Disc pads last long cost more
V brakes Cost less ( Cheap Deacthlon types ) last you less.

Maintenance
V-brakes Every 2-3 months to tweak for the same consistent feel
Disc hydro types self adjusting just replace the fluid (Brake bleeding) every 6-7 months and the system is uptdate

Advantages over V-types
Better braking
Long pad life.
Consistent Brake feel
Mental Satisfaction

Disadvantage ;
System Cost more as compared  to V brakes mech types  ( Hydro V-brakes are even more expensive )
Coast of Replacement may be high as compared.
Parts might be hard to get  (with good LBS it can be sorted).

Sure you can add more points to both on ones experience.

Cheers.

Well said.

In wet conditions, disc brake is the only option. V brakes cannot stop. It rather wears out the pads instead of stopping.
