One more nice stretch lost to the BDA/BBMP. Please notice the illegal ways things work for the signal free corridors aka cutting of trees - I hope people realize that a signal  free corridor is at least not worth the trees lost or rather the trees don't need to be lost - they are being cut by people who make money out of it in the name of signal free corridors... All this was done without the knowledge of forest officials let alone the consent of the people!!!

I plan to go to the protest after the run.

Details -

" Last Night, 40 trees were cut near St.Johns hospital, Koramanagala. BDA has plans for a signal-free corridor which has been put on hold, but this is likely to be BDA's handiwork. Koramanagala residents have planned a protest on sunday morning at 10am to protest the BDA's tactics of taking out their frustration on the trees near St Johns. Please join them. Call 9980082324 for more details."

Pls see the call for protest on sunday morning at 10am in koramanagala.

Koramangala residents have been battling the BDAs plans to build a signal-free corridor. CM Sadananda Gowda constituted a committee to look into this issue, but even before this commiittee submitted any report, last night someone has come and cut 40 trees with electric saws and even concreted the place where the stump was!

the residents called me this morning and i asked them to speak to the tree officer, the most alarming part of the whole thing is the 40 trees have been cut WITHOUT the BBMP forest dept. knowing abt it!

there is no way that anyone can come and cut 40 trees without any support from anyone inside. Looks like BDA, afraid of a adverse committee report decided to hire some timber mafia and have the trees cut. there is no other way this might have happened. the BDA chief engineer (engg.) is i think Chikkarayappa ..who was the same man who was responsible for the midnight tender scam in BBMP on the same issue of signal-free corridors, this might be his handiwork along with BDA comissioner Meena's.

the lesson for us here is that if any project moves from BBMP to BDA..its even more difficult to fight it. no corporators or any elected reps we can approach.
