1000 km ride starting off at 4 pm today

Dear folks,

This year Master Brevet has been a little subdued , possibly due to the fact that we the organizers have been caught up a lot in our regular career travails, and could not devote too much time to drumming up support for the rides, and also the fact that we decided to do away with the 200. But regardless, we have 6 bravehearts riding the monsoon 1000 to Belgaum and back. With rains battering the west coast, it promises to be interesting this time around. The headwinds will always be there, rain or not.

The start point is same as before, Prestige Meridian in MG Road.

If you can make it around 3:30 great. In any case, please join me in wishing the best of luck to the following folks.

Ashok has already done this route once, Some did it in January, when it is slightly easier. The rest are I believe in their maiden attempt. I myself carry very fond memories of the only 1000 I have done so far, and thanks to career pressures, have not been able to make time this year. This ride has fascinated the riding community since its inception in 2011 and we hope , it will continue to inspire and motivate people.

I quit after tumkur. Had a flat but couldn't fix it. I carried presta oriented pump. And I couldn't find any puncture shop in five kms. Walked and walked.. Finally found one. Got the puncture fixed and reached Tumkur. Again same punctured patch gave in. Damnnn had enough and came back home.

Here's the story..
Till yesterday mid morning I didn't have a bike to ride. Was really busy with work and couldn't find time to finalise on the bike.
Chetan from cadence 90 helped me with his bike. Marine hybrid. It is an awesome bike to ride.
I took the bike directly from cadence 90 to the starting point.
Here is the twist......
1.
Marine bikes require a special allen key to remove the tire and Chetan forgot to give that to me.

2. It had a scrada tube.

3. I carried a presta pump only for road bikes and two presta tubes.

4. And no tire liners on these...😞

I had a flat on the Tumkur highway. Only to realise all the top points.
So I walked for some 3 kms to find one puncture shop. Finally got the flat fixed...opendra...i fixed the flat... Hehehe..i used only the pump from puncture shop.. without removing the tire..
In the dark I had missed the spot of the puncture and air started leaking by the time I reached Tumkur.
Luckily found the puncture shop right after the Tumkur toll. By the time I fixed it correctly. I had lost lots of time and interest.
Got really bored and returned home..

So my lord... Do you agree to all my points above and remove the ban imposed on me...😃 ??..

Ashok and Soma are in Bangalore, they rode 850 km ( dharwad and back -- they couldn't continue beyond)

Shreyas had a swollen ankle yesterday. had to take a break no news after that

600 guys had reached ranebennur well in time and were returning last night.

2 guys started the 400 at 4 pm  yesterday

Gana and Putta have finished their 600km.

I think the 400km ride back was their revenge against the headwinds. Since I rode both sides yesterday and was fairly fresh, I can attest to the severity of the headwinds. Its there even here near Bangalore. But from what I remember the stretch from Davangere to Bankapur was another level altogether.

I doubt , at current form, if I would be able to do it.

it was almost a solo ride for 900 odd kms . 

i met ashok and somas only at 650th km where they were ripping at 35-40kmph . i could barely keep pace with them .

we also met gana and putta at 750th km .

 ashok and soma took off near  chitradurga where i had to go inside city for atm slips

now in office . will write more on experience later

I am quite curious to know what did not go well this time, you are at your peak fitness, as far as I know.

Correct me if I am wrong this was your 6th attempt (2 1200 kms 4 1000 kms). Completed successfully 3 times earlier and all the 3 times you were riding trek 7100 hybrid.  This was your first attempt on a road bike. You were known for riding non stop 4 to 5 hrs without stop at a stretch.

How much road bike helped you this time or didn't? How frequently you were taking breaks? Would more relaxed posture on your road bike would have helped you? Compared to your earlier bike this one was better in every aspect.

Would love to hear from you and looking forward to read a ride report that also touching upon these aspects.

Or BOTS  i believe has a valve adapter which lets you convert presta to schrader. http://store.bumsonthesaddle.com/products/kool-stop-valve-adaptor :) I carry one in with me in the saddle bag and it did come to help for my commuter as i topped up using the conventional motorized pumps in the puncture repair shop.
