Was a very satisfying ride. Big thanks to Mustafa who helped a lot by pushing me on when I was tired, pulling and shielding me from the winds when I could not take them and being a very good companion on the ride. Some highlights of the ride being :
1. At the toll both in Guilalu, 15kms after Hiriyur, Mustu and me were given a royal treatment. Cold water from the fridge, a place to rest and relax for a while, coffee served free and all this at 2am in the middle of the night. the toll fellows were very happy just to help. Mustu suggest recommending this place as a possible stop in the cue-sheet next time :)
2. On the return, the jack-fruit sellers between Dobbespet and Nelmangala were awed by so many cyclists passing by. A couple of them were offering jack-fruits to every cyclist passing by. When I offered to pay for the fruits I at, they simply refused, saying it was their pleasure to help us. Wonder how many other riders made use of this impromptu but un-anticipated service.
3. At Hiriyur ATM, Mustu, Joshua and myself also ran into police-men. About 4 of them. But they were very friendly, helping us find water, and also agrreing to let other riders to follow know of the ATM location. They were( as most passer-bys are) very curious to know what the event was about, and thought the idea of gettind atm slips as time stamps was a very clever one by the organisers ;)
4. The winds at Chitradurga were tough, as usual. However, since I was anticipating them, they did not feel as bad as last year, when I was caught by surprise. In fact they seemed relatively gentler as compared to last year, and I could dash of through them at a modest pace. Giving expected wind speeds at a given point on the ride for a given duration may help a lot for people who plan their rides. Could anyone let us know how to get this information?
And finally the 400km was the only ride with no DNFs and a 100% completion record. Yaay 400ers.
