The Yell"Aah"Giri 300k Brevet – 19th Dec 2014 : Registrations Open

The interest in the Bas1Betta climb, and Michael climbing it twice ,spurred BangaloreBrevets to create a 300 route with a bigger Hill climb. This is the Yellagiri 300 Brevet, with about 700 mtr elevation gain via 14 hairpin bends, each named after a Tamil Poet, and for the last two seasons, the hill featured in the 14 Poets 400 Brevet route.

The Route: http://goo.gl/4AiGFp

Start 19 Dec: 22:00 : Pizza Hut, BTM Layout, Silk Board (12.916711,77.62032)

End: 20 Dec 18:00 : HDFC Bank, BTM Layout, SilkBoard (12.915981,77.619229)

Register here: https://sites.google.com/site/iiscrando/2015-season/dec14-yelagiri300

Fee: Rupees 99/-

Registrations open: 12 December 2014, 18:00

Registrations close: 18 December 201408:00

Rules for the ride: https://sites.google.com/site/iiscrando/rules-and-regulations

Please pay close attention to the LIGHTS and SAFETY JACKET rules.

We start 22:00 on 19th Dec, friday Night , enabling the Climb to be done at dawn before it gets hot.
The route is on the Golden Quadrilateral with fantastic road surface for a big part, with some sections on NH/SH which are pretty good as well.
There is a smooth and fast descent to Krishnagiri, then a flat stretch on the Bargur-Tirupattur road to the base of the climb, and finally a nice 700 mtr elevation gain at the hill going from 400 mtr to about 1100 mtr. The return has the slow ascent at the Shoolagiri climb, and then a flatter gradual climb all the way back to Bangalore.

Coming in January: Brevets on 9th and 24th Jan. Mark your calendars.

Thiruvalluvar has sage advice for our riders
"The objectives and aims should always be fixed high, Even if not achieved, those thoughts should not be changed.

Coming up :
Elevation map that will direct,
How "High" our aim to be set,
For this lovely climbing Brevet.

The elevation profile looks surprisingly Dental
But conquering the climbing is mostly Mental
Noteworthy is the little dip atop the Crown
A Kings breakfast awaits us in Yelagiri Town

PS: Two years ago Opendro and his merry men attacked the breakfast with such gusto, slowcoaches like me arriving later found many of the menu items had gone out of stock ! This was well before Flopkart invented the system of "Out of Stocking" sales ;-)

PPS: This was also the ride where the famously advertised "Rolling terrain" after the climb prompted Da Lam to report "Nothing will roll on this surface, in any direction"

Thanks Ali for the kind words of encouragement, it is always a pleasure to hear your repartees.

Nice literature :) Yes, the breakfast at the top - better be early, because I seemed to have inspired many to learn the art of topping up to the brim. Stocks are not guaranteed to last ;)

Gentle reminder to some friends of Mine
Who prefer to wait for a looming Deadline
Plan ahead and avoid making it very tight
Registrations will close exactly at Midnight

I'm surprised to see so less number of registration, that too for a time as cool as December. I'm sad that I will be missing a 300K. I was planning to do a full series this year. Somehow, dates are not working well for me :(

From the mail below, there was supposedly a brevet on the 9th of January. Any news on that?

Thanks

The year end vacations have caused a delay, we will probably do the next brevet on the subsequent weekend of 17/18 Jan.

This year we have gone for fresh routes which have low traffic, great scenery, off highway to the extent possible, the key bottleneck is designing routes and doing reccees and drafting detailed cuesheets.

Can we get some volunteers to do the routes (Route+Reccee+Cuesheet) for 300/400 and 600 brevets ?  Please let me know and I will send out details on what specifically to look out for in terms of route design , any constraints etc.
