Do any of you know of any place where bikes are rented out for a day's trip??

There are a few folks who want to ride upto Nandi hills for a day and were wondering if they could get half-decent cycles which would allow them to bike up there.

I think we would need to put some terms and conditions for the bike renting, so that the process of bike renting in our community becomes popular. For example
I can rent out my bike who takes care of the bike and returns in the same condition. I will oil the bike before giving him, and would like to have it oiled before get it back in my hand. Any damages has to be taken care by the person taking it on rent. And also for different bikes if we have the per day rent (Probably you would like to make more money over  weekends) for different kind of bikes.
Probably it will regulate different things and more and more ppl would be interested in renting out their bike when not in use. Finally a gives us a healthier community.
Does that make sense?
Thanks and Regards,

It does Ravi, even I would like to try renting out bike to see if I
can actually stick to it on long term..it saves lots of money for me,
I can rent bike for a week and see if it actually meets my requirement
and then I can invest on my own bike

Makes fantastic sense.

Me smelling business here...  Got to make a biz plan and get a VC to fund me to buy some 100 bikes.

Profit!

Looks nice. Was also wondering whether we can add recommendations for the bikes and the bike seekers.

Hey guys nice stuff you are willing to rent out your bikes, just a
thought weekend rental price looks good but 300 bucks per weekday is
bit on the higher side, i know you have the state of the art bikes but
still...

I think that IF there is any damage, then repairs could cost a bomb; that's why the rentals may be high...so for careful renters, perhaps there will be negotiation...! :)

well .. a normal puncture shop by the road side rents out bikes for 8 bucks an hour.
So 300 bucks is kinda decent IMO.

Plus like Deepa mentioned its teh Maximum suggested rental price - you are allowed to use your charms and charm down the price :) Ugh !

Ppl if you are not using your bike some of the days, plan that out in advance and put it on rent. The best part of this is you contribute to make the Community better healthier and bigger.
You  can rent it out on your convineince, so grow ths list.
I am really happy to see that there are 4 bikes on offer.
Rohan and Nikhil,
See if you guys can also rent out your bikes, if you do this ppl will have the confidance to the same.
Thanks and Regards,
~ Ravi

Guys do put in dates when the bike is available...it would be of great
help. Looks like I will wait for a while to see the price going down
and then use my charms to pull it down further..sorry guys being in
Ahmedabad for 21 years does bring out this effect regarding bargain

Ya indeed that will be great i mean the people who dont know exactly
which bike to buy can first try the bikes on rent and then go for the
one .....

Cool man !!!!!!!! ...
can we have a list where we can put the names who are willing to
give the bikes on rent or some kind of little database .. where the
availabilty is show ...
or some post where any one who wishes to give his bike on rent
can post ..

Whoa!! The list has grown exponentially from 1 to 5 in a day. Impressive I must say.
However, as far as renting bikes goes, I'm a little reserved about that, primarily because guys hiring your bike would in all probability be amateurs and I'm not sure how comfortable I would be with the fact that he/she has taken it for an entire day.
Its been just 3 months since I've had my bike and I guess that might be a reason for me being a little possessive, anyways, great that quite a few of you have volunteered to rent your bikes. One suggestion, please put up your contact numbers on the list to get more accessible.

Is there a need for contact number ?  our emails are there. Its the least intrusive way of communicating.

Oh. I always wanted to know. Is it better to use the Treasury rate or
LIBOR as a baseline when comparing tensile strengths of Reynolds True
Temper and monocoque (yes, it's a technical word, you dirty minds!)
carbon?

Hey comparing tensile strengths of steel and carbon fiber is so unfair.

I understand there are carbon fiber addicts everywhere but I say, steel is king. Funnily, I am yet to find anybody gunning for Al.

And I shut up before I get trans located to another thread by mobs of angry people

hey ... dont worry asking questions. In this group - there are no embarrassing or wrong questions :)

there are just different opinions and answers :)

about how to edit the list
1. get a login - ( Initially the wiki could be edited by anyone, but looked like someone was up to no good. So have gated it now)
2. follow the tutorial - http://notebook.bumsonthesaddle.com/playground:tutorial

if this is not enough .. lemme know. Just means I need to work more on making it easier for folks.
So the more questions you fire at me on how to edit this, the easier it is for someone else to get started on this ! (maybe fire the emails to me directly instead of spamming everyone else on the group)

Yeah, I guess giving out contact numbers is intrusive but I thought it would be helpful for guys who decide to go for a ride on the fly.
Via mails they would have to wait atleast a day for the owner to respond, then again, its all upto the individual, if you dont mind being bothered go ahead and put up your numbers.
