Assalamu alaykum!
A few sisters have gotten together to discuss a potential upcoming event and we need approval/feedback/ideas. Every year, I, as a mother of two young kids, struggle to avoid any celebration of Halloween. Instead of staying home and avoiding the doorbell ringing constantly, I usually take my kids out somewhere to enjoy in a different way. Luckily, that day falls on a Friday (Oct 31st) this year, making it easier for us to plan something at the masjid (what better place to gather?)
Here are our thoughts and ideas gathered:
What: "Friday Fun Night"
Who: Weekend Islamic School Kids
Where: Masjid playroom
When: Friday Oct 31st (time not yet confirmed, possibly 6:30-8:30)
Why: To give Muslim kids a place to enjoy when others are out begging for candy!
-Coloring contest (packets would be given coming weekend, based on age group, judged at the event the following Friday)
-Face painting
-Balloon animals
-Carnival-type games (Bean bag toss, pin the crescent on the masjid, etc)
-Hijab pin decorating
-Cookie decorating
-Musical chairs
-Islamic Bingo
-Pajama-themed (Come dressed in your pajamas!)
-Bouncy castle?
____________
-My thought is if we charge a very minimal fee ($1-2 per child) it would help raise funds for the next time we have an event. Of course no one would be turned away of they can not pay). We can have a raffle at the end of the event after they enter their tickets purchase for some prize or another. The other advantage is, if we sell tickets early, it gives us a better idea of how many kids to expect.
-We need volunteers! This is a good way to get the older kids in the community involved. I think if the kids are 12 or older they should volunteer to man the stations.
-Who is this open to? The whole community or only the registered islamic school kids? and which islamic school - both would be my thought, but then we would need a bigger space - this might pose some issues with what ages of boys and girls)
-How do we advertise? If we do, it should be soon so they know to pay for tickets and/or bring money with them.
-What kind of funds do we have to start with (we will need to buy some materials/crafts/supplies)?
JZK.
