This is the research end of year notes from the President of Bandung Fe Institute:

“Dear supporting friends, colleagues, competitors, readers,

Within the very short time we will have to replace the calendar of 2012 with the 2013. A moment in which time let us to embrace the new year, as we reflect the enjoying moments and experience in the past year. I am happy to convey the gratitude on behalf of all researchers and staffs in the institute for those who have helped and accompanied us along the fascinating research year of 2012 with warm expectation for the togetherness embracing the new year research of 2013.

Along with all the support of the Surya Research and Education Center (SURE) and the Surya Institute, all through the years is an enjoyment with novelty and creative yet productive activities on researches. The happy incoming new year will witness some of implementation activities in the project of Smart Village, the empowerment of Indonesian rural areas and villages with social complexity researches within local governance, education, and health management. The growth we expect is definitely not only economical but also social as well. Villages today are the future cities. I also feel obliged to thank our friends in Indonesian Parliament, for instance Mr. Budiman Sudjatmiko for his help through all aspects in the planning as well as preparation for this endeavors.

I cannot forget the excitement of the year for the help and collaboration with friends from the Freedom Institute in Jakarta for the opportunities of hosting our serial discussions on social complexity. We hope, in the future we can also on the same board again for enhancement of the welfare within our freedom nation. I thank the Ashoka Foundation for a lot of things may happen for their support to me as personal and the institute as well.

The year of 2012 has also marked a lot of field activities to sharpen researches in “TechnoCulture”, a new field for the acquisitions and extraction of cultural information from a lot of cultural aspects of our lives, from the activities in social media and other internet services, media press, to the Indonesian traditional and ethnography. I personally, congratulate the Indonesian Archipelago Cultural Initiatives (IACI) as well as friends in Inovasi Anak Bangsa (INVASA) for their support helping us introducing the TechnoCulture activities to the public sphere through the expeditions in order to fulfill one million entries in the Online Digital Library of Indonesian Traditional Culture. I am proud to see the researches on Bataknese traditional ornaments of Gorga, the documentation of old geometric designs of “songket”, the traditional fabric from Southern Sumatera. I cannot hide my excitement imagining the larger public participations from other areas of the archipelago to make the digital library of Indonesian traditional culture www.budaya-indonesia.org

At the end of this year, on behalf of the writer team, I am proud to present the “Indonesian Outlook 2013”, the publication that help us to peep the future through the key whole of social complexity sciences. It will be right away for public access online by the middle of January 2013. Enjoy it and embrace the optimism for the new year with regards of scientific endeavors.

That’s it, and I personally thank all of researchers, interns, programmers, designers, and staffs of the institute for the whole year experience of excitement. May God bless us all. Happy New Year!
