01. Happy Eid Mubarak for Moslems around the world!
The researchers and staffs of the Bandung Fe Institute conveys the
silaturahmi and peace greetings for all moslems around the world after
fasting a full month of Ramadhan 1432H. May the peace we learn in a
good month of Ramadhan brings energy for more productive and creative
collaborative and interdisciplinary works on science and the
sharpening of public policies through complexity studies.

02. President of BFI is awarded as outstanding young scientist
Hokky Situngkir, the researcher in Dept. Computational Sociology and
currently the President of the institute, receives the Ahmad Bakrie
Special Prize 2011 as Outstanding Young Scientist from the Freedom
Institute.

The research on Indonesian culture, especially on the famous
Indonesian traditional culture, batik, is highlighted for the award.
This is also related to the endeavors of BFI researchers as well as
the Indonesian Archipelago Cultural Initiatives (IACI) for
establishing the digital Indonesian cultural digital library (http://
www.budaya-indonesia.org) that makes the public participation for the
database of Indonesian traditional culture possible.

While the data is collected within participation, the scientific and
unconventional research incorporating complexity sciences pushes the
innovation that open the door for the strengthening the market of
traditional small-scale entrepreneurship. Moreover, the analysis of
the diverse elements in Indonesian traditional culture, some research
has conjectured some further approach on seeing cultural innovation as
evolutionary process, as well as some further works on our
understanding to the role of innovation in the economy.

Ahmad Bakrie Award is annually given by the Freedom Institute in
Jakarta as suggested by anonymous juries in appreciation of the work
of Indonesian intellectuals and to motivate people to contribute ideas
and innovation for the nation.

Beside Situngkir, Adrian B. Lapian was also awarded for his
contribution to social thinking, Satyanegara for his medical work,
F.G.Winarno for his achievement in food technology, Jatna Supriatna
for his works on bio-evolutionary studies, and the writer N.H. Dini
for her body of work in literatures. The award ceremony was held on
August 14th at Jakarta Theater in Central Jakarta.
