Dear All,

I am not sure why the option "Show Password" in the "Enter Password" window is always selected by default:

If someone is walking by or just looks at my screen while I am entering my password, or, God forbid, a screencapture malware is active on my computer without me knowing it, there goes the secrecy of my password.

Why do I need to deselect it manually every time? On every site and in every other app I have entered a password in, the logic is the opposite: the option is deselected by default. And for good reason.

Best regards,
Pavel

Hello, this is Bandisoft.

The "Show Password" is actually disabled by default. Once you enable the checkbox, however, Bandizip remembers your preference and keeps it enabled for future password prompts.

If you would like the checkbox to remain disabled, please try the following:

1. Open any encrypted archive.
2. Uncheck the "Show Password" and enter the password.
3. Click OK to extract or open the archive.
4. Exit Bandizip Completely.

The next time you open an encrypted archive, you should find that the checkbox is disabled again. Feel free to contact us again if the same problem persists, or if you have any other issues.

Thank you for using Bandizip.

Hi sayo IM,

Thank you for your answer.

Unfortunately, after applying the steps and closing the Bandizip window, the "Show Password" is still checked on the next start of Bandizip. What am I doing wrong?

Kind regards,
P

Hello again,

1. Completely uninstall Bandizip and all related components from your computer, then download and install the latest version from our official website.
Download Bandizip: https://www.bandisoft.com/bandizip/

2. When entering your password, make sure no other Bandizip instances are running. Only a single instance of Bandizip should be open.

3. Bandizip stores this setting in the Windows Registry. The registry value

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bandizip\bShowPassword

should be set to 0 for the setting to remain disabled.

If you are using a system optimization or registry cleanup tool, it may be restoring the registry to a previous state. Add Bandizip to the tool's exclusion list so that the setting can be saved properly. (If you are in a corporate or managed IT environment, contact your IT administrator for assistance.)

Best,
