It's been awhile since I wrote a real proper standalone article, but
here it is! Progressive Training!

http://www.glowingfaceman.com/2009/07/progressive-training.html

I've had the idea for this article for some time, and finally got
around to writing it. Just before writing it, I did some of the usual
initial analysis (google keyword tool, google search...) and, lo and
behold, I saw Steve Pavlina already had an article by exactly the same
title, at google #1. That was a little discouraging and I thought
about abandoning the idea. Did some alternate keyword research, but
no synonymous titles were any good. Finally I decided, what the heck,
I'll write it anyway. Let me know how you like the finished
product :)

Hey GFM!

Would you care to elaborate on your steps you use ? As in....

"just before writing it, I did some of the usual
initial analysis (google keyword tool, google search...) "

Maybe you could explain your process, what tools you use, why you do
it, etc. It may be beneficial to the rest of us. I know it would me
for me.

Thanks!

Hey Chuck,

Basically just optimizing the title. I want my title to exactly (or
almost exactly, modulo words like "the") match a google keyword which
gets lots of search traffic and doesn't have much competition. It's
also nice if it has good Cost Per Click (CPC).

Go to Google Keyword Tool
(https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal) and enter a
keyword. Eg., "magic of believing". Now you'll wanna modify the
results a little. First, under "Match Type", change it from "Broad"
to "Exact". Next, under "Choose columns to display", choose "Show
Estimated Avg CPC". (Optional.. this is assuming you're gonna
monetize with adsense. If not, you can skip it...) Now repeat the
search for some basic synonyms, like "power of believing", "magic of
belief", "power of faith", etc., and see which one is best. Sometimes
one will have more traffic but less CPC.. its a judgment call and I'm
no expert...

Next is google search. Just go to google and search for the keyword
you picked, to get an idea of the competition. This is really hard to
quantify, I think you just have to get experience, I'm still getting
surprised by which keywords make it to the frontpage and which
don't... It can help a lot if you have the SEOQuake firefox extension
installed.

Let me know if there's anything there that needs more clarification :)

Hey thanks Sam!

I will definitely play around with this. Always willing to learn
something new.

One more thing.....on the blogger page it still shows I haven't updated
in 5 weeks. It may be because I have a new feed as of today. So you
might have to change that.

thanks again

Cool article, I also like your simple no frills layout, I think it is
the new trend.
