From 1718 to 1772, thousands of the people of Lorraine set out for territories that they had been promised would be generous. They joined other would-be settlers from Luxembourg, the Rhineland, Franconia among others in this "Eldorado".

Arracourt, Athienville, Bezange-la-Grande, Bathelémont, Parroy, in the region of Lunéville in Meurthe-et-Moselle; Dieuze, Guébling, Marsal, Morhange, Sarrebourg in Moselle or Charleville, Coume, Saint-Hubert, Sainte-Barbe closer to Metz; villages in Lorraine that still retain today the memory of their inhabitants who departed, often in precarious conditions, across the Rhine.

From roads in carts, to tumultuous journeys on rafts, they passed through Ulm, Vienna, Budapest before becoming the first new settlers of brand new villages, built in the plain on the borders of Hungary, Romania Hungary, Romania and Serbia.

The work is a collection of short stories and anecdotes of Lorraine families who immigrated to the Banat, often during the 1770s. The Association "Lorrains du Banat" wanted by a publication to contribute to the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of these departures. This work is a collective effort, written by several members of the association who each tell what they were able to reconstruct from the events experienced by their ancestors or their cousins.

The whole of these small stories constitutes the great and extraordinary history of "Lorrains du Banat".

In response to the events that shook the world, the "Banatais" had to adapt; some of them did, while others, with the approach of world conflicts, chose to emigrate, to the United States, for example. Many, probably, are unaware of their Lorraine origins.
