Familienbuch Ernsthausen

By Hans Repp

Now Available

After eight years of work and research, Hans Repp has completed the family book for Ernsthausen in the Banat, with some data gaps.

Hans Repp has done an outstanding job of preparing and bringing the Family Book Ernsthausen to print. The Family Book covers the time of Ernsthausen's founding in 1822 to the end of the community in 1945. Of course, the time gaps in the available documentation must be taken into consideration, especially since most of the original church registers have been lost or are missing. Until 1828, all records were kept in Sartscha. The records were also incorporated, as were the records for dissolved community Kiss-Maria (recorded in the Pardan records).

Ernsthausen (Serbian Banatski Despotovac, Hungarian Ernöháza) is now in the Serbian Banat, about twenty kilometers from Zrenjamin (Großbetschkerek), 98 kilometers from Belgrade. After the establishment of their own Parish in 1828, Ernsthausen kept their own church registers. The basis for the processed materials are the duplicate copies of the original entries, which had to be delivered to the Diocese, and can be found today in the Staatsarchiv in Novi Sad. Individual years were not found and a greater time-period between 1868 and 1879 was unfortunately no longer available. Only a minimal part of the original Church books could be located.

The author has, despite the scattered source locations, created a comprehensive work with many references to the original communities. He did this by including and referring to many of the other Banater communities and their records, even partially including them in this book. The lists in the Ernsthausen Heimatbuch von Schag Lisa (Elisabeth Flassak) were also incorporated in the book.

The work consists of a 2 volume set with 1,330 pages.

The books are printed in hardcover format with a stitched binding that will withstand repeated use.

Price of the two volumes 65€ plus shipping of 41.50€ to the US and Canada.
